The Green River Pirates basketball team will play the first game this Wednesday morning of the Utah State 1-A boys basketball tournament when they will face Tintic in a game starting at 10 am.

The Pirates finished second in region 19 behind Monticello, a team that defeated Green River last week in their final region and regular season contest. Monticello finished the season with a perfect 10-0 region record to take the first place seed while Green River only had the two Monticello losses blotting their region record. Monument Valley finished third with Pinnacle Academy fourth, Whitehorse fifth and Navajo Mountain sixth.

In the final region game, Monticello defeated Green River 76-53. Green River was outscored in each of the four periods. Scoring for the Pirates were TJ Hughes with 15 points, Jon Mendez with 14 points, Nick Corrigan with 8 points, Chance Pfander with 7 points and Spencer Marshall with 6 points. The 1-A tournament is being played at the Sevier Valley Center and a champion will be crowned Saturday evening.
