SUNNYSIDE-Our loving sister, aunt, beloved friend and neighbor Mary Teresa Eaquinto was called home on Dec. 23, 2010 at the age of 85.
She was born Dec. 4, 1925 in Sunnyside to Biagio "Bill" and Rosa Tallerico Eaquinto. Mary was the fourth of six children.
Mary worked as a cashier at Miner's Trading Post. For 46 years she greeted customers, vendors and co-workers with a smile and a humorous tale. A lifelong member of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, she was honored as the parish Catholic Woman of the Year in 2002.
A fixture in the community, Mary often worked as an election judge, volunteered at the church and loved to attend community activities and celebrations.
Proud of her Italian heritage, she taught everyone to make traditional Italian cookies. Many people were recipients of holiday goodies. She loved telling jokes, shopping, and watching the Utah Jazz.
Although she never married, Mary's life was filled with family. She cared for her parents until their passing. She was a favorite aunt to 13 nieces and nephews, 26 great-nieces and nephews and 23 great-great-nieces and nephews. She was more than an aunt; to many, she was a surrogate grandma. She helped bring joy to so many.
She is survived by her brother James (Kathleen) Eaquinto, East Carbon City; many nieces and nephews, and a large community of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; infant brother Joseph; sisters and brothers-in-law, Phyllis (Jay) Pagano, Josephine (Jack) Jensen, Rose (Frank) Sacco, nephews, Chris Jensen and Harold Marston.
Funeral Mass, Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2010, 11 a.m., Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Vigil service, Tuesday evening 7 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home (233 East Main Street).
