Green River Skate Park update
On Feb. 7, the Green River Community Center hosted a meeting for the skateboarders to discuss fundraising ideas for the new skate park.
Currently the group is in the process of applying for various grants, in particular the Tony Hawk Foundation Grant for $25,000.
Last summer a grant application was submitted to the Foundation but it was turned down. The Foundation encouraged the skateboarders to resubmit once they have increased community awareness and raised more funds for the project.
At Monday's meeting the skateboarders decided to host a Skate Off on Feb. 22 at 4:30 p.m. across from the Melon Vine on Broadway to increase interest and raise community support.
They encourage skaters in Green River to enter the tournament as well as those in surrounding communities. Admission to compete is $3 and sign up will be on the day of the event.
In addition, spectators from the community are welcome to come and support for the skaters. During the competition a raffle will be held for the items donated from the Tony Hawk Foundation including skate decks and clothing.
In preparation for this event the Green River skaters will be restoring and improving their mini ramp, rail, bench, fun box, and kicker.
Please come and show your support.
