Taking it to the hoop.

After opening the season with 14 straight victories, the Spartans are 2-4 over the last three weeks. Their woes continued this past week with losses to North Sanpete in Castle Dale 58-49 and on the road in Lehi 71-55.

After leading 14-6 after the first quarter on Wednesday against the Hawks, the Spartans were outscored in each of the next three quarters to lose for the second time this season to the Hawks. Curt Jensen led the Spartans with 15 points.

At Lehi, the Pioneers used their height advantage early and often to lead the Spartans after one quarter 17-5. The Spartans never got closer then nine points the rest of the game as they lost for the second time last week. Bowie Jeffs led the Spartans with 28 points.

Emery will be on the road next Friday at 7 p.m. at Judge Memorial High School in Salt Lake City for the first round of state playoffs. Judge Memorial High School is located at 650 South 1100 East.
