Help Fill Sandbags
On May 18, at 10:30 a.m., a sandbagging effort will be held at the State Park in Green River. Sandbags will be filled and made ready for distribution. Agencies involved will be Emery County Sheriff's Office, Grand County Sheriff's Office and Utah State Parks. Volunteers from the community are needed and are welcome to participate. The Green River is expected to reach flood stage this year.
The Emery County Sheriff's Office has issued an alert to those farmers and ranchers with properties along the Green River. The Green River is expected to reach the flooding stage in mid-May. This high water warning will be in effect until the first of July.
Anyone with livestock or water pumps or equipment along the Green River is urged to move them to higher ground to avoid loss of property and livestock. The snow pack is much higher than normal for the Green River drainage. There is more snow pack left in the mountains than during the flooding years of 1983 and 1984.
All creeks and waterways in Emery County could be running 50 percent higher than what is usually seen this time of year. Extreme caution is needed around waterways.
