The Utah Permanent Community Impact Board Thursday approved more than $2.5 million for two projects in Emery County.

A $985,000 grant and $200,000 loan to be repaid over 30 years at 2.5 percent will be used by the North Emery Water Users Special Service District for water system improvements in the Spring Development. Huntington City will use a $900,000 grant and $500,000 loan to be repaid over 30 years at zero percent interest for the construction of a new fire station.

The Community Impact Board awards grants and low-interest loans to cities, towns and counties impacted by mining and the extraction of oil and gas on federal land. Projects funded by the CIB benefit rural Utah by creating safer, more livable communities. The program is managed by the Division of Housing and Community Development under the Utah Department of Community and Culture.
