Zona worked as a secretary for North Emery High School, was secretary of the Carbon/Emery riding club, worked at the post office, and finally retired after 30 years as secretary of Cleveland Elementary. She wrote in her 40th class reunion booklet "I've had a job as a farmer's wife for the past 38 and a half years; the pay has been lousy but the benefits have been immeasurable."
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served in numerous auxiliaries such as Sunday school, Primary, and Relief Society.
Zona loved softball, which she played into her fifties. She enjoyed the outdoors, hiking in the mountains with her friend Bonnie, horseback riding, camping with her family, helping with the farm work and gardening.
