As the excitement of Melon Days grew so did the anticipation by the baseball team of their home game against the Wendover Wildcats. The Pirates were coming off losses to Tintic and Tabiona and were hungry to notch a couple of wins.

The Pirates started out a bit slow in the first game going three up and three down while the Wildcats put three scores up on the board and having two batters get hit by the pitcher, Spencer Marshall. In the bottom of the second inning Nick Corrigan managed to advance around the bases by stealing and a wild pitch but got called out at home plate. But not to worry as the Pirates got things going in the bottom of the third inning when Kyle Johnson, Justin Johnson, Spencer Marshall and Nick Corrigan all came across the plate to take the lead and to open the flood gates. The Pirates won the game 13 to 3.

The second game started out a bit differently as the Pirates shut down the Wildcats three up and three down and they went on to score two runs. The second inning didn't have much scoring action but the third inning got things going when Spencer Marshall got up to the plate. Justin Johnson was already on second base from a walk and a stolen base as Spencer eyed an 0 - 1 pitch that he slammed deep into left field and the race was on.

Spencer rounded first and second full speed and was looking intently at Coach Parsons who gave him the sign to hold at third but his wheels were rolling and Spencer rounded third full speed and crossed home plate standing up for an in the park home run. That fired the Pirates up. So much so that Nick Corrigan crossed home plate after short stop, TJ Hughes smacked one to the pitcher who got him out at first.

In the bottom of the fourth with the weather threatening with a light show all around, Hunter Jones and Kyle Johnson were at first and second bases respectively when Justin Johnson took a 1 - 1 pitch deep into left field and like Spence before him shoved it into overdrive and motored across home plate for a stand up in the park home run.
