The Emery High Lady Spartan basketball season came to an abrupt halt with a loss to the Enterprise Wolves in the first round of the state 2-A play-offs. This culminated the end of an up and down season for Emery.

The season ended just as it began, with a game against Enterprise. On Nov. 22, Emery defeated Enterprise in Richfield by the score of 47-37. Nearly three months later, Emery loses by a score of 37-27. While the Emery defense managed to hold the Wolves to the same point total of 37, the Emery offense was not nearly as effective as they scored 20 points less this time around.

Emery finished the season with a record of 6-13, their worst mark since the 2003-4 season when they managed to win only four games.

Despite turning the ball over 26 times and despite shooting 40 percent at the free throw line, the Wolves did enough to win the game as their defense constantly harassed the Emery offense throughout the game.

Emery was outscored in the first quarter 11-6 and in the second quarter 8-5. Both teams scored five points in the third quarter. Enterprise won the final period 12-11. Emery had opportunity but the ball just didn't seem to bounce Emery's way.

Jeridi Price scored seven points with Kim Oldroyd and Blayr Jeffs scoring six points each. Laurel Roundy and Kelsie Cox each scored three points and Shelby Allred scored two points. Emery shot 19 percent the first half and 31 percent the second half to finish the game at 24 percent. Emery did not make a 3-point shot in the game.

Coach Dean Stilson after the game, "I feel sad for the girls, they deserved more." With only two seniors on this team, Emery will be a veteran team next season looking to return to the excellence that we have become accustomed to.
