PRICE-Sarah Jane Griffiths Smith passed away Monday, April 9, 2012 at the Emery County Nursing Home in Ferron,Utah. She was born in Sunnyside, Utah on Dec. 16, 1912, the fifth of 12 children born to David John and Olivetta Johnson Howard Griffiths.  Her sister Viola Fullmer of West Valley survives her.

She married Forrest Grant Smith on Sept. 7, 1931 in Farmington, Utah, after spending the day at Lagoon with another couple. They were later sealed in the Provo LDS Temple on June 7, 1986.  Forrest passed away July 19, 2005.

They are the parents of Forrest Grant (BenaLee Black), Gerald Leon (Bonnie Jean Lewis), Evonna, Colleen (Duaine) Hatch, American Fall, Idaho, Sharon Ann Taldo, Roger Lawrence (Karen Ree), Castle Dale, Utah, Judith 'Judi' (George) Baker, Gregory 'Greg' Brent Smith, Vail, Colorado; 29 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; 62 great-great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her sweetheart, five of their eight children, five brothers and five sisters.

She spent most of her life in Carbon County. Her parents and grandparents immigrated from Wales and England to work in the Utah coal mines. When her grandfather Howard held her for the first time he lovingly called her "Little Toot" and much to her dislike the nickname stuck throughout her life.

"Toots" was an excellent homemaker. She loved being at home cooking, baking and sharing with family and friends. Rock hunting was her passion.  She was thrilled to find a perfect petrified pine cone. Her favorite spot was Cedar Mountain. She especially enjoyed her association with the Carbon County Rock Hound Club. She served in the Primary and Relief Society Presidencies. She enjoyed teaching Primary, working on family history and in later years serving as an extraction worker.

Her family wishes to thank the staff of the Emery County Care Center, her good neighbors, ward member and all those who were so kind to her.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, April 13, 2012 at 12 noon at the Cliffview Cemetery (2100 East 800 North, Price.) A viewing will be held on Friday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. prior to the graveside service at Fausett Mortuary (680 East 100 South, Price.)
