The Star Theatre on Main Street in Huntington.

New Business of the Year

The Chamber of Commerce New Business of the Year award was given to Janice and Percy Mounteer at the recent Chamber of Commerce awards banquet. The couple purchased the Star Theatre in Huntington and have turned the historic theatre into one of the best and most affordable theatres in Utah. The Mounteers have spent long hours cleaning the entire building, fixing the wiring, chairs, consession stand and speaker system and repainting just about everything.

Their business focus has been on family entertainment through cinema, live stage performance and they have a cry room for children. Percy said, "The theatre has been an existing business since it was built in 1944-46. We've changed the seats and remodeled the bathrooms. The building now has hot water for the first time. We've replaced the movie screen and replaced the coal furnace with gas heaters. We have plans for the future to expand, but we'll just have to wait and see."

Janice said, "We've expanded the snack bar to include a wide variety of treats. We purchased a new popcorn machine and the popcorn tastes great. We offer a Wednesday matinee and Saturday afternoon matinees at noon and 2 p.m. We've had so many positive comments on what we've done here. It's a labor of love for the community," said Janice.

They still have more ideas and projects they are working on to make the theatre even better for the future.
