The Emery High Softball Team honored its seniors during the last region game. Graduating seniors are Stacie Giles, Michelle Johansen, Amber Gardner and MacKell Huntington.

The Lady Spartans opened the 3-A state tournament at Tooele High School last Saturday against the Park City Miners. They lost 8-1 as Park City scored seven times in the bottom of the sixth inning. Emery then played Pineview, with the loser going home for the year, and won 6-5.

In the opener, Emery managed only to score a single time in the seventh inning. Eve Guymon singled and then scored the lone run.

In the nightcap, Emery scored three times in the first inning. McKell Huntington singled, Michelle Johansen got on by a Panther error, and Cortni Jensen doubled them both home. Guymon then singled home Jensen.

Huntington doubled to lead off the third inning and a 1-out single by Jensen scored her. Emery scored their final two runs in the fifth inning as Jensen got hit by a pitch and Guymon doubled her home. She would later score the final run.

Pineview scored twice in the fourth, once more in the fifth and twice more in the seventh inning before the Spartans sent them packing. Emery now plays this Thursday at the Weber County Fairgrounds against Wasatch. Game time is 7:15 p.m. With a victory, the Spartans will play again Friday.
