The Emery High baseball team got back on track last week with a trio of region wins. Emery defeated South Sevier on Tuesday by the score of 5-3 in a game that was close throughout and then on Friday, Emery traveled to Monticello and there they defeated the host team twice in a doubleheader.

Score of the first game was 16-1 and the second game score was 18-7. Emery had a fourth game scheduled last week but a non-region contest with Uintah was canceled due to weather.

Emery started the week with the thought of getting back into their winning ways after having suffered their first loss of the season the previous week. South Sevier came to town with the thoughts of upsetting the defending state champions. In the top of the first inning the first two batters for the Rams get base hits but both base runners get thrown out at second base trying to steal. Both were great throws by catcher Drexler Tanner and good mechanics by the Spartan men at second. Those were half the hits that starting pitcher Brayden Burke gave up in his four innings on the mound.

Emery went down in order in the bottom of the first with three straight fly balls. The Rams scored first in the top of the second inning. After two were out the Spartans committed an error and the next batter hit a double to score the run.

Emery answered in the bottom of the inning. Gavin McDermott led of the inning with a base on balls and then worked his way around the bases as the next three Emery batters got out.

Emery took the lead in the bottom of the third inning. After holding the Rams scoreless in the top of the inning, Emery scored three times in the bottom of the inning.

Marco Mota led off the inning with a single and Tanner Lake followed with another single. Ridge Nielson laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners and Dillon Wilstead then received a base on balls. Burke then flew out to right field scoring a run and McDermott followed with a single scoring two more runners.

After South Sevier added a single run in the fourth inning and another in the fifth inning, Emery came back with a single run in the bottom of the sixth inning to put a little breathing room between them and the Rams.

In the sixth inning, McDermott led off with a triple and scored on a single off the bat of Ethan Tuttle.

After Burke pitched those first four innings, Nielson went to the mound in relief and got the save.

Against Monticello, Emery started Dillon Wilstead on the mound against the home team. Monticello started their ace but the Spartans had 12 base hits off of him.

Emery scored one time in both the first and second innings, twice in both of the third and fourth innings and closed out the game with 10 runs in the top of the sixth inning.

McDermott led the offense with both a homerun and a double in the game. Nielson added a homerun as Emery had six extra base hits in the game. Bryce Dugmore, Lake and Tyson Roper each had doubles.

In the second game of the doubleheader, Emery scored seven times in the first inning, once in the second inning and the third inning, six times in the fourth inning and three times in the top of the fifth inning, the last inning played due to the ten-run rule. Nielson pitched this game.

McDermott had two homeruns in this game and Wilstead and Mota each had one. Drexler Tanner, Nielson and Lake each had a double.

Emery plays at Grand on Tuesday, at San Juan on Wednesday and at Wasatch Academy on Friday as a busy region schedule continues.
