Letter to the Editor: Thankful

Dear Editor,

Upon learning of the capture of Saddam Hussein, I was overjoyed to say the least. Being a veteran, I understand the hardship, sacrifice and sorrow that military members and their families must endure to advance the cause of freedom. During the holiday season, we must all reflect on the things we have to be thankful for. I have thought of all the things I have to be thankful for and the list is long.

Here are just a few I think we should all be thankful for. I thank God we have a President in office who has the courage and fortitude to stay the course in freeing other people in the world and ending the threat of terrorism, not just for America, but for all countries. I am thankful that Mr. Bush understands freedom and democracy is the only way to peace.

Freedom is not free and unfortunately, young men and women have died and will continue to die to protect and advance our freedom. The altar of freedom is covered with the blood of real Americans and is not protected or furthered by the hollow, shallow words of people like Hillary Clinton, Tom Daschle and all their cohorts in the Democrat party. I hope and pray that all Americans, particularly the ones that vote, will remember the disgusting behavior these people have displayed come next November. I know I will. I pray that America will continue to be the shining light for the entire world and the example for the world to follow, as it always has been. A lot of our enemies around the world think they will prevail over us because God is on their side. They could not be more wrong. The truth is that we are on Gods side.

During the holiday season, let us all pause and remember those that have fallen and those that have and are serving now in our armed forces. I hope all of us will remember that this country was founded by men with a strong faith in God. Without those fine people, we would surely be lost. God bless everyone and Merry Christmas.
