BLM RMP

The comment period for the resource management plan, originally ending Oct. 15, has been extended 45 days, and will end Nov. 29.

Shenandoah Auditions

Emery County Community Theater will be holding auditions for the upcoming production of the musical, Shenandoah. Auditions will be held on Oct. 19-20 from 7-9 p.m. at the Emery High School auditorium. Auditions packets can be picked at all libraries. The need is for men and women, 16 years of age and older, and boys from 8-12 years old.

Gallery East at CEU

Gallery East presents an exhibition of the works of Brian Christensen, Bryon Draper and Peter Everett from Oct. 4-29. Gallery hours are 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday.

Ferron Elementary Halloween Carnival

Ferron Elementary PTO will hold their annual Halloween Carnival on Oct. 27 from 6-8 p.m. in the gymnasium at the school. There will be food and games for the entire family. Halloween costumes are encouraged but not required. For more information call 384-3117.

Emery Animal Shelter

Emery Animal Shelter is located a 470 West Hiway 29 in Castle Dale. Wonderful animals are ready for adoption: kittens, male, 4 months old, white; male, 4 months old, tabby gray. Adult dogs; black and tan Dachshund mix, female; adult gray terrier mix, male, neutered. Prices vary and all incude spay or neuter and rabies vaccination. Program in the Park

The Emery County Domestic Violence Coalition is sponsoring the sixth annual Program in the Park on Oct. 13 from noon-1 p.m. at the Castle Dale City Park. This is a free program and lunch will be provided. Guest speaker will be Dolly Martinez, a domestic violence survivor. In the event of inclement weather, the program will be held on the second floor of the county building (old courthouse).

Farm Bureau Dinner and Business Meeting

The Emery County Farm Bureau business meeting and annual banquet will be held on Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. at the Huntington Senior Citizens Center. All members and other interested citizens are welcome to come and contribute to local policy development. Free dinner, RSVP to Barbra at 687-2580 or Joy at 748-2820.

Castle Dale City

Look for the secondary water to be turned off on approximately Oct. 15. Castle Dale City's fall burn dates are Sept. 15-Oct. 15. You must obtain a burn permit before you burn. The permits are free. Fall beautification is during the same time period. If you need help with a big item, please call city hall. There is also a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those indiviuals who are responsible for the vandalism at the public restrooms. Call 381-2115.

Tent of Terror

The second annual Tent of Terror will begin on Oct. 22 and run through Oct. 30, except Sunday in Cedar City at 200 West and Center Street. Times will be from 7-11 p.m. nightly. Get tickets at 1-800-PLAYTIX or www.bard.org.

Christmas Festival

A Christmas Festival will be held Nov. 5-6 at the Emery County Recreation Center in Castle Dale. There will be food, fun, booths, entertainment and crafts. Friday, 1-9 p.m.and Saturday 10 a.m,.-4 p.m. For information contact Jodi at 381-2222 or Darlene at 381-2504.

Adult Education Program

The Emery County Adult Education Program will begin registering for the 2004-05 school year on Oct. 4. Registration will be held at the Emery County School District office, 170 North Main Street in Huntington. Classes will be held Monday-Thursday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Adult High School facility, south of the seminary building. A copy of your transcripts is need at time of registration. Utah Arts Council Aprenticeships

Utah Arts Council announces 2005 Folk Arts apprenticeship program grants. Applications are no available through the Folk Arts program at the Utah Arts Council. For information call George Schoemaker at 1-801-533-5760. The grant deadline is Dec. 31.

Arbor Day Foundation

Huntington City Garbage Collection

They will be picking up garbage at the curb on Tuesday mornings. Place your garbage in bags, boxes or old garbage cans and place out on the curb until your new garbage can is delivered. We are sorry for the inconvenience. Pickup on the east side of town will begin at 7 a.m. and on the west side of town at 11 a.m.

San Rafael Museum

Joseph Venus has researchd the prehistoric Fremont Indian culture. This has enabled him to paint with authenticity in his depictions of the Fremont people who lived in this area as early aw 300-600 A.D. The ancient artisans disappeared fromthe area by 1300 A.D.due to a severe drought. They left behind a multitude of pictures painted and etched on many of the canyon walls. This rock art can still be seen today in Venus' paintings at the museum.

Holiday Craft Fair

CEU is looking for crafters. CEU classified staff is holding a holiday craft fair scholarship fundraiser Nov. 19-20. If you are interested in having a booth contact Geniva Brooks at 613-5266 or Kelli Curtis at 613-5431 by Nov 1.

Huntington Fall Open Burn Period

Huntington City fall open burn period Sept. 18-Oct.16. Burn permits will be required and can be picked up at city hall. All burning must be done from 7 a.m -7 p.m. Cost to extinguish fires and fines may be imposed. Violaters are subject to civil penalties. October will be the last limb pick up. Cleveland Burn Window

Cleveland Town fall burn dates are Sept. 18-Oct. 16. Only yard waste, such as leaves, branches and small trees can be burned. You must obtain a burn permit from the town hall or any fire department member before you burn.

Pennies By The Inch

The Pennies By The Inch Campaign will be held through Oct. 15. Funds contributed help Primary Children's Medical Center patients receive the medical care they need. For more information contact Jeanne Cady at 1-801-588-3684 or 1-800-762-7262.

Hearing Screening Testing

Emery School District will be doing hearing screening tests throughout the school year. This testing will be done for all students in preschool, kindergarten, first grade, special education and students referred by their teacher or parent. Any parents who does not want their child to be given a hearing screening test should call their school and tell the secretary.

Food Handler's Classes

Food handler's classes will be held Oct. 13, Nov. 17 and Dec. 8 at 9 a.m., 4 and 7 p.m. at Southeastern Utah District Healt Department, 28 South 100 East, Price. Temple Square Performances

ALCO Cute Baby Contest

ALCO is sponsoring the 19th annual cute baby contest in which all the proceeds go to local charities. Bring in your photos now, voting begins Oct. 1. All babies up to 2 years of age are eligible.

Orangeville Burn Window

Orangeville City's burn permits are available for open burn Sept. 18-Oct. 16. Come into city hall for a burn permit before you burn. Individuals who do not obtain a burn permit may be subject to penalties.

Emery County Super-Fix

Veterans Creative Arts Festival

The National Veterans Creative Arts Festival will be held in Salt Lake City Oct. 9-16. The festival is presented by the VA, the American Legion Auxiliary and Help Hospitalized Veterans. Ascension St. Matthew's Church

The fall schedule for Ascension St. Matthew's Church will be as follows: Sundays 9:30 a.m.-Sunday school for all ages; 10:30 a.m.-worship, followed by fellowship and refreshments with a potluck lunch on the first Sunday of each month. Educational Opportunity Center

The College of Eastern Utah has a new Educational Opportunity Center serving Carbon and Emery Counties. The program is designed to assist adults who would like to start into a college of their choice. The Educational Opportunity Center can assist students with a variety of services including financial aid applications, college course selection and completing their GEDs, if needed. It is a free service and targets low income and first generation students. If you would like to start college in the fall, now is the time to get started. The Educational Opportunity Center is located in the Jennifer Leavitt Building CEU - Room 213. Feel free to walk in without an appointment or call Shawnee at 613-5243. During the summer the center will be closed on Fridays.

Memorial Plaque Fund Raiser

A fund raiser is being held for Cemetery Memorial Plaques for each of the cemeteries. Donations can be sent to PO Box 126, Cleveland, Utah 84518.

The Three Wishes Inc. Program makes available power (electric) wheelchairs to senior citizens (65 years and older) and the permanently disabled at no cost to the recipient, if they qualify. Call toll free at 1-800-817-1871.

CASA Volunteers Needed

Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Those interested in volunteering should contact Kerrie, the CASA coordinator at 435-381-5595.

Senior Mobility

The Senior Mobility Program makes available to senior citizens and the permanently disabled, power electric wheelchairs at no cost to the recipient, if they qualify. Call 1-800-451-0971 to see if you qualify.

Utah Valley Cancer Center

Utah Valley Cancer Center, located at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center has a new toll-free phone number. Anyone can call 1-866-549-3800 to schedule an appointment, get information about local cancer support groups or to find out more about IHC cancer services and physicians. Hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Eyeglasses for Lions Club

The Huntington Lions Club is gathering used eyeglasses to be distributed to needy people in Third World countries. There is a special need for childrens glasses. For more information, contact Judy Lang at 687-5349.

Donations are needed from Emery County residents to the Emery Chapter of the Salvation Army which provides emergency assistance for the people of Emery County as well as people traveling through the area. Union Local 6363

Attention, union meeting for local 6363 will be held the third Wednesday of every month at the District 22 office in Price. The meeting will begin at 10 a.m.
