Emery Falls to Pine View

The Spartan line tries to keep Pine View out of the end zone.

The Emery High Spartans run in the playoffs was short lived as they faced the number two team in the state and the winner of Region 9 in St. George on Oct. 30. The Pine View Panthers thoroughly dominated the game as they won 59-13.

The Panther quarterback completed 14 of 18 passes in the first half for 254 yards and five touchdowns as Emery could not stop the Pine View offense. Pine View led at the half 45-0.

Emery was able to score in the second half on a Joey Bernard to Mike Blomquist 7-yard pass and a 4-yard run by Dave Justice from the QB position. Region 9 won all four games against Region 8. Delta lost to Dixie 33-20, Lehi lost to Snow Canyon 42-28 and North Sanpete lost to Cedar City 36-25. Pine View will play for the 3A state championship against Bear River on Nov. 19 at 10 a.m. at the University of Utah.
