Canyon View vs. San Rafael

Junior High Basketball Tourney set for this week

Caitlin Hansen, Canyon View and Rebekah Bott, San Rafael, battle it out for the rebound in league play earlier this season.

The basketball season for the local junior highs will conclude this week with the annual Castle Valley Association tournament at San Rafael Junior High this Wednesday and Thursday.

The schedule for Wednesday will be Canyon View girls playing the San Rafael girls at 5 p.m. and Canyon View boys playing the San Rafael boys at 7 p.m. Mont Harmon girls and boys will play Helper girls and boys earlier in the day.

The Canyon View girls finished the season with a league record of 4-2 as they lost to Mont Harmon and Helper in away games. They also lost to Uintah Junior High and to Delta Junior High. Canyon View is coached by Eric Mortenson with Lee Moss as assistant.

Players to watch for Canyon View are Kaitlin Hansen at center, Jalee Jensen, Madison Jensen and ShiAnne Allred.

The San Rafael girls team is coached by Kirk Robinson and finished the league season with a 2-4 record. Players to watch are Jody Robertson and Lacey Montgomery.

The San Rafael boy's team is coached by Wayne Hales. They finished the league season tied for second place with Canyon View with records of 3-3. They each won their games at home and each lost on the road. San Rafael also played games against Spanish Fork, Payson and Uintah junior highs and lost each one.

Players to watch for the San Rafael boys are Trevor Mitcheson, Ryan Jones and Cody Allen.

Bill Wright coaches the Canyon View boys. Curt Collard assists with the team. Non-league games for the year were against Green River, Moab and Uintah. They lost to Uintah. Players to watch are Skyler Jensen at point guard and Karson Jensen, an eighth grade center.
