Kaden Robertson dribbles past the Piute defender.

Although the Green River basketball season came to a close with a loss at Piute in a play-in game for the state tournament, the coaching staff feels that the team had a good season.

At Junction, Piute was untouchable in the game that ousted the Pirates. "Nobody in 1-A basketball could have beat them that night," said Coach Stan Parsons, "they simply played out of their heads. We beat them earlier in the season, but they had their turn in this game."

The game was over early as Piute outscored Green River 28-12 in the opening quarter enroute to a 72-39 romp. Piute never looked back as they outscored Green River in each of the four quarters of the game.

Scoring in the final game of the season for the Pirates were Jake Mecham with 21 points, Hyrum Mitchell and Cody Webster with 6 points each, Kaden Robertson with 4 points and Parker Hatt with 2 points.

This season's team finished the year with a 12-11 record overall and 7-2 region record. They won the Region 16 south league title and represented themselves well all season long.

Region 16 rivals played very well in the state tourney as they finished first, second, fourth and eighth. Manila, who finished third in their region won the title again as they defeated Tabiona. Rich finished fourth and barely defeated Green River in the games at Emery High for seeding into the tournament.

Graduating from this team are seniors Mecham and Webster along with Jacob Dunwoody and Nicolas Brady. Hyrum Mitchell was the only junior on the team and will be looked to for senior leadership next year.

The JV team had a good season as they finished 10-5 including a win over Monticello, a team joining Green River's region next season. "We have a pretty good group of sophomores coming back next season." continued Parsons. "If the players take more time during the off season to work on their game, we should be just fine next season."

The sophomores coming back include the two starters in Kaden Robertson and Kaleb Fail, plus Brent Johnson, Parker Hatt and Jace Vetere. There were also eight freshmen that played with the team this season.
