Old Rocket Theater in Castle Dale

Utah Business Week

Canyon View Junior Riding Club

Canyon View Junior riding club rodeo queen contest will be held June 24 in the Huntington Arena. Programs at Goblin Valley

June 25, Goblin Valley State Park, Green River, join the park naturalist at 10:30 a.m. at the Observation Point to learn how animals survive in the desert. Heritage Days Patriotic Fireside

Grant Writing Workshop

Grant Writing USA will hold a grant writing workshop in partnership with the St. George Police Department from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on July 18 and 19 at the St. George Police Department, 265 North 200 East in St. George. Emery County Senior Golf League

Emery County seniors, ages 50 and over, are welcomed to come and play in the league which begins on June 29, and continues every Wednesday. Starting time is 8 a.m. with a shotgun start and will be a 4-man scramble format. Each week will be a mini-tournament with $10 green and cart. First place team win $100 each week. Rabbit Show Junior Livestock Show

Design Arts Utah Exhibition

The Design Arts Program of the Utah Arts Council is having its third annual exhibit in tribute to design in Utah. It's from June 17- July 29 at the Rio Gallery located in the historic Rio Grande Train Station, 300 South Rio Grande( 455 West) in Salt Lake City. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday 9 to 5 p.m. (excluding state holidays).

U of U Nominations of Veterans

The University of Utah will host its eighth annual Veteran's Day Commemoration Program on Nov. 11. honoring all Utah veterans who have served our country in military service. SRSCD Seeking Local Input on Resource Concerns

The local San Rafael Soil Conservation District (SCD) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (Natural Resources Conservation Service-NRCS) is seeking input from all citizens, organizations and government agencies about resource concern issues. The resource concerns of most interest to the SCD are soil, water, air, plant, animal and human issues. There may be other resource concern issues as well and public input is requested.

The San Rafael Soil Conservation District consists of five locally elected citizens charged with focusing attention on all resource concerns within its jurisdiction which is the land and water within the San Rafael River Watershed. The purpose of the SCD is to "focus attention on land, water, and related resource problems; develop programs to solve those problems; and, enlist the cooperation of various public and private resource groups who can contribute to the accomplishments of the districts goals and plans."

If you have concerns or would like to comment on local resources, please plan to attend a public meeting on June 23. The public meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the new USDA Service Center located at 1120 North Des Bee Dove Road (road to the new county sheriff's office). Fair Exhibits

The home arts exhibits welcomes anyone interested in displaying their sewing, knitting, painting, quilting, canning, baked goods, stained glass, woodworking, metal art, photographs, needlepoint, gardening, etc. during the Emery County Fair, Aug. 4-6. Great Summer at Castle Dale Library

All the action began on June 1 at the Castle Dale Library. The theme for the summer programs at the libraries in Emery County is Dragons, Dreams and Daring Deeds. In keeping with that theme, the summer reading program, the schedule is with dragons; June 22-knights; June 20-castles; July 6-royal read; July 13-magical mayhem; and the summer finale July 20-Hogwarts School. The reading club "Joust Read" began June 1, where readers can earn one Sickle (Hogwarts coin) to be used at the summer finale. A special young adult program, "Ye Knights of the Order of the Castle (Dale Library), for ages 8 and older, will be held on June 21 from 5:30-8:30 p.m.; and July 5 and 20 at 1 p.m.

Green River Kid's Cafe

The Green River Community Center announces the sponsorship of the summer food service program. Free meals will be available to attending children. Meals will be served at the Green River Community Center in the Kid's Cafe Monday-Friday. Morning snack-8:45-9 a.m.; lunch-12-12 :30 p.m. (both through the summer food program); and dinner (through the Utah Food Bank) from 4-4:30 p.m.

First Annual Amateur Golf Tournament

The first annual Emery County Recreation/Millsite Men's Association amateur 4 man scramble will be held June 25. There will be a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Register at Emery Recreation office at 75 South 400 East, Castle Dale, by June 23. Each team can only have on member with a handicap of 10 or less. Entry fee includes green fees, cart, two par three contests, membership, lunch, drinks on the course, prizes, and a tee gift. Coloring Contest

The Utah Summer Games sponsors a children's coloring contest. You can download coloring pages at Completed pages should be mailed to Utah Summer Games, 351 West University Blvd., Cedar City, UT 84720. On the back of the page parents should legibly write the child's name, age, birthdate, telephone number and mailing address. State Fair Music Competition

Musicians are being sought for the annual Classical Music Competition to be held during August at the Utah State Fairpark. Classical music students from ages 8-23 are encouraged to participate. North Emery Reunion

The North Emery High Reunion will be held July 2 at Huntington Elementary School, 70 East 100 North. Registration and light refreshments will begin at 10 a.m. The monument dedication will be held at noon. Program at 3 p.m. followed by dinner. Emery Pioneer Day

There is still room for vendors at Emery Town's annual Pioneer Day celebration, which will be held on July 23. Call the town office at 286-2714 to reserve your place to sell your crafts, plants, hot dogs and cotton candy. There will be no cost to vendors who wish to participate. Bring your family and friends and join us for a day filled with fun, parades, food and music. See you in Emery.

Veterans of Foreign Wars

A field service officer from the Veterans of Foreign Wars will be at the Price Workforce Service Center on June 23 from 8:30-10:30 a.m. This is a free service to assist veterans, widows and dependents in understanding and applying for rightful VA benefits.

Floats, Floats, Floats

Come join in the fun of this years Emery County Fair Parade. We encourage every business, church group, city, school group, sports group, or family to be a part of the fair parade. The fair theme is New Ideas, New Dreams, New Beginnings. Floats will be judged and prizes will be given in several different categories. Food Vendors Wanted

Project ChildSafe

Project ChildSafe, sponsored by the National Shooting Sports Foundation will be distributing free gun locks throughout Emery County. Members of the community may call their local law enforcement agency for information on how to obtain a free gun lock.

AA and NA Meetings

AA and NA meetings will be held at the Emery County Recreation Center, 75 South 400 East, Castle Dale. AA will be Tuesday nights from 6:30-7:30 p.m. NA meetings will be Thursday nights from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Emery County Archives now has new hours. The new hours are noon-5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. CASA Volunteers Needed

Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Utah Valley Cancer Center, located at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center has a new toll-free phone number. Anyone can call 1-866-549-3800 to schedule an appointment, get information about local cancer support groups or to find out more about IHC cancer services and physicians. Hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Eyeglasses for Lions Club

The Huntington Lions Club is gathering used eyeglasses to be distributed to needy people in Third World countries. There is a special need for childrens glasses. For more information, contact Judy Lang at 687-5349.
