Slow Pitch Softball Registration

Registration for coed slow pitch softball will be held Aug. 15-24 at the Emery Recreation Center building. League play will begin Aug. 31 and continue on Wednesday nights. For more information call the rec center at 381-2108.

AWANA Club

AWANA club for children age 3 through sixth grade will be held at Desert Edge Christian Chapel on Wednesdays from 6-8 p.m. The fun will begin on Sept. 7 with games, Bible lessons, treats and fun. The theme for this year is Red, White, and Blue, the Lord Loves You. For more information call 653-2361.

Young Family Reunion

Come join the fun at the Young family reunion this year. Bring your genealogy and histories to share. Bring a put luck dish. Fun and games for all, Aug. 20, 8 a.m., Little Bear Campground, Huntington Canyon.

Tour de Emery

The Tour de Emery will be held Aug. 27 and will begin at Huntington City Park with breakfast at 6 a.m. The ride will be to the Swinging Bridge and back. Lunch and drinks will be provided. Toastmasters want back into Price

Toastmasters would like to come back to Price. We had a club in Price and we need to get one going again. For more information go online, www.district15tm.org.

Ladies ATV Ride

On Sept. 7 during the Arapeen ATV Jamboree, a special ladies ride will be held. The ride will be the Black Dragon ride and is rated beginner. Lunch will be catered on the trail for a small fee. For more information contact Corey at 381-2431 or 749-6301.

Songs in the Park

Songs in the park will be performed by the Val Jensen Band at the Huntington City Park. It will be held on Aug. 18 at 7 p.m. Hot dogs and soda pop will be served. The event is sponsored by the City of Huntington.

ATV Rodeo

The FFA students at Emery High School are sponsoring an ATV rodeo to be held in conjunction with the Arapeen ATV Jamboree. The ATV rodeo will be held Sept. 8 at 6:30 p.m. at the Ferron rodeo grounds. Everyone is welcome to enter the rodeo, and there will be different divisions and many events. For more information and to register contact Corinne Dalton or one of the FFA students.

Peach Days Soapbox Derby

The Peach Days soapbox derby will be held Sept. 10. There is no entrance fee, however, drivers must be at least 6 years of age and must have a signed permissions slip if they are under 18 in order to participate. Entry forms must be turned in to City Hall by 5 p.m. on Sept. 7. Entry forms and rules are available at City hall during regular business hours. Races will be divided into similar age groups with one race as an open class. Prizes will be awarded to the winning participants and to the cars with the most original design.

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity offers a day of hammering and helping on Aug. 20, starting at 9 a.m. Bring your gloves, hammer and a jacket or sunscreen to 690 Orange Court, 320 West Valley View Subdivision, Castle Dale (West of the Emery High School). Individual volunteers or groups (16 years old and up with supervisor) need to build and lift walls into place. For more information call Katherine at 650-0074 or Sylvia at 687-9184. Food Handlers Classes

There will be food handlers classes for all persons working in restaurants, bars, nursing homes, school cafeterias, convenience stores or grocery deli's. Classes will be taught in Price on Aug. 24 and Sept. 28 at 4 and 7 p.m. at Southeastern Utah District Health Department, 28 South 100 East. Classes will also be taught in Castle Dale on Aug. 25 and Sept. 29 at 4 and 7 p.m. at the Health Department, 25 West Main Street, Castle Dale. 1985 Class Reunion

A 20 year class reunion will be held for the Emery High graduating class of 1985. A get together will be held at the Joe's Valley pavilion, Bring your lunch, bring your children, and play some games. Castle Country Horse Show Association

The Castle Country Horse Show Association schedule is: Sept. 17, Castle Dale. Operation Home Support

Project ChildSafe

Project ChildSafe, sponsored by the National Shooting Sports Foundation will be distributing free gun locks throughout Emery County. Members of the community may call their local law enforcement agency for information on how to obtain a free gun lock.

AA and NA Meetings

AA and NA meetings will be held at the Emery County Recreation Center, 75 South 400 East, Castle Dale. AA will be Tuesday nights from 6:30-7:30 p.m. NA meetings will be Thursday nights from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Pioneer Museum Hours

New hours for the Pioneer Museum are 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Monday through Friday, and Saturday noon-4 p.m. Share your pioneer heritage with family and friends.

New Emery County Archives Hours

Emery County Archives now has new hours. The new hours are noon-5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The Archives is now under the supervision of the Emery County Recorder and a message may be left at that office at 381-2414.

The Wheelchair Foundation, Intermountain Healthcare, and the George S. and Dolores Dore Eccles Foundation are partnering to distribute free wheelchairs to disabled Utahns. Persons interested in getting a free wheelchair can call 1-877-387-3839, or apply at www.wheelchairfoundation.org/utah.

Support Group for Parents

Grief support group for parents who have lost a child will be held Thursday evenings at 6:30 p.m. in the classroom at Castleview Hospital, 300 North Hospital Drive, Price. For more information contact 637-4800, ext. #4018 or 820-0287.

Financial Aid

Are you having trouble getting money for college? Have you been denied a PELL grant? Do you lack funding? Have you exhausted all other financial resources? CASA Volunteers Needed

Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Those interested in volunteering should contact Kerrie, the CASA coordinator at 435-381-5595.

Senior Mobility

The Senior Mobility Program makes available to senior citizens and the permanently disabled, power electric wheelchairs at no cost to the recipient, if they qualify. Call 1-800-451-0971 to see if you qualify.

Utah Valley Cancer Center, located at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center has a new toll-free phone number. Anyone can call 1-866-549-3800 to schedule an appointment or get info.
