Emery wrestlers travel to Manti Tournament

Jacob Begay wrestles for Emery.

On Dec. 16-17, the Emery High Wrestling team (most of them) traveled over the mountain to wrestle in a tournament at Manti High School.

For the varsity, Steven Giles and Jex Jensen each placed second with 8-1 records and Tyler Swenson was fourth with a 5-4 record. For the junior varsity, Craig Guymon and Ron Herrera each took first place, Guy Judd and Nick Oviatt each took second place and Cole Bunderson and Wayne Hatch each took third place.

Emery defeated Panguitch 54-21 and Gunnison 54-36. Emery lost to Altamont 54-20, Monticello 42-27, Manti 53-3, Fremont 48-21, Juab 60-6, North Sanpete 66-12 and South Sevier 33-30.

Also wrestling for the Spartans were McKay Allred at 103 pounds, Jaden Bagley at 112 pounds, Landon Huntsman at 135 pounds, Brock Winn at 140 pounds, Mike Jones at 152 pounds, Kaden Murdock at 160 pounds, Ty Thomas at 215 pounds and Jacob Begay at 275 pounds.
