Dj Vu for Lady Spartans

Just like last season, the Lady Spartans finished tied for fourth place in Region 8 softball with Delta and now will play a play-off game with those Rabbits for the right to continue playing. Winner to Uintah High School for the first round of State playoffs and the loser stays home and is done with the season. The winner will play the host Uintah Utes.
Emery finished the season with a 4-6 region record and a 9-6 overall record. Last week they lost their last two region contests as they lost to Juan Diego 7-2 in Castle Dale on Tuesday and then traveled to Delta and lost 11-2. At Delta the temperature dropped 30 degrees and the rain and wind made things miserable, as the Emery bats just were not effective this day. The weather enhanced Emery's misery while Delta did not seem as affected by the conditions.
At Delta, Emery was able to score first. In the first inning, Eve Guymon singled and then was brought home on a hit by Carly Anderson that was booted by the Delta right fielder. Delta took the lead in the bottom of the first as they scored three runs on three base hits and an Emery error.
Neither team scored in the second inning but Delta added a run in the third inning on two base hits including a double. Delta also added runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
For the Spartans, Jalee Jensen singled to lead off the third inning but the subsequent Emery batters were unable to score her. In the fourth inning before the weather went to pot, Emery was able to get the first three batters on base. Haylie Hansen singled, Chelsea Skinner and Lacey Erickson each walked to put Emery in great position to score some runs. Unfortunately, the next Emery batters did not co-operate. The next two batters popped up to first base and the third batter struck out to end the inning.
In the fifth inning, Guymon again singled and again scored, this time on a ball hit by Hansen that was bobbled by the Delta fielder. The rest of the game was played in miserable conditions as the weather was lousy and Emery's offensive woes continued.
Three straight strike outs in the sixth inning and three fly balls in the seventh inning ended the game for the Spartans.
Emery now has the opportunity to beat these same Rabbits in a play-in game tomorrow, Wednesday the 10th. The game will be played in Spanish Fork, just like last year. Emery beat these same Rabbits a month ago 5-2 and will be looking to avenge last week's loss along with last season's play-in loss with a resounding win.
