Derrick Allred with the ball for Canyon View tries to get away from the San Rafael defenders, Cody Jones and friend.

Last Wednesday, the Canyon View Cougars traveled to Ferron and defeated the San Rafael Bulldogs 26-12 in the final football game of the 2006 season. With the win, Canyon View finished third in league play and San Rafael finished the season in fourth place.

Canyon View lost to Helper twice this season. One time they lost 29-26 and the other time they lost to the Rams in overtime. Mont Harmon also defeated both local Junior high's twice as the Pirates finished the season undefeated. Canyon View scored three touchdowns against Mont Harmon this season for the only points scored against the Pirates in 10 games.

Coach Eric Mortensen considers Dusty Jensen this season's Canyon View MVP. Dusty finished the season with just over 600 yards rushing from the tailback position. Against Helper, Dusty had 252 yards rushing and three touchdowns in a single game.

Also playing well this season were Derrick Allred at fullback, Marcos Duran at quarterback, Tanner Procarione at tight end and defensive end, Damion Gordon and Nathan Mecham on the line and Spencer Fehlberg at wide receiver and cornerback.

Coach Mortensen was proud of his team, "We didn't have a lot of players this year but those here played hard in whatever positions we asked them to play. We only had 22 players on our team so each player had to be very versatile on the field. They are good kids, they stayed out of trouble and they are good students. We did well."

Yory Allred is head coach of the Bulldogs. Yory also talked about his players, "We only had 30 players out this season but most of them were pretty good athletes. We were in close games this year, except Mont Harmon. Our line had no size, which hurt us both offensively and defensively. We had a problem with believing, we just didn't believe that we could win."

Outstanding players for San Rafael were quarterback Derek Tuttle, wide receivers JT Noyes, Kash Jewkes, Brady Jensen and Joe Colby; halfback Jacob Tuttle, center Cody Jones and linebacker Billie Mangum. Derek grew into the position during the season and became a good leader and a decent passer. Mangum was the hardest hitter on the team.
