Emery Spartan wrestling begins season

Emery High hosted Carbon High in the opening region wrestling match of the season and the Dinos were not very good guests as they defeated the Spartans 59-12. Only Mike Jones at 171 pounds and Wade Bohn at 215 pounds were victorious in the matches. Both pinned their opponent in the first round.

Emery had earlier wrestled in the Juab Turkey Tournament and they were sponsored in this tournament by David and McKette Allred, attorneys at law in Castle Dale. Emery took first place. Teams participating in that tournament were Manti, Juab, Altamont, Payson, American Leadership and Emery.

Emery High also introduced their new coaching staff as the season begins with head coach Buck Taylor a former outstanding Emery Wrestler from Orangeville along with assistant coaches Kevin Reynolds and Tom Hansen both teachers at Emery High. Buck and the team are real excited about the upcoming season and have high hopes returning several wrestlers from last year along with adding many new faces to the team.

Emery had a great showing at the tournament as every wrestler on the team received a medal in their bracket.

Finishing first were McKay Allred at 125 pounds, Skyler Jensen at 135 pounds, Brock Winn at 145 pounds, Landon Huntsman at 152 pounds, Mike Jones at 171 pounds and Wade Bohn at 215 pounds.

Finishing second were Hayden Hatch at 125 pounds, Ryan Stream at 130 pounds, Kaeden Murdock at 160 pounds, Drew Bohn at 189 pounds, Ty Thomas at 215 pounds and Caleb Jones at 285 pounds.

Finishing third were Cade Whittle at 140 pounds, Wacey Allred at 160 pounds and Cyal Christmas at 285 pounds. Finishing fourth were Zac Walls at 119 pounds, Beau Warner at 130 pounds, Jake Gardner at 171 pounds and John Staley at 189 pounds.

Here are the results of the match against Carbon: 103 pounds,Nico Velasquez, Carbon won by forfeit; at 119 pounds, Tyson Herrick, Carbon pinned Zac Walls; at 125 pounds, Tanner Herrick, Carbon decisioned McKay Allred; at 130 pounds, Kenny Davis, Carbon pinned Skyler Jensen; at 135 pounds, Pat Strey, Carbon decisioned Craig Guymon; at 140 pounds, Preston Loderserto, Carbon pinned Kessler Tanner; at 145 pounds, Colton Martinez, Carbon pinned Brock Winn; at 152 pounds, Davey Cox, Carbon decisioned Landon Huntsman; at 160 pounds, Brandon Branch, Carbon decisioned Kaeden Murdock; at 171 pounds, Mike Jones, Emery pinned Wes Hunsaker; at 189 pounds, Mike Harmon, Carbon pinned Drew Bohn; at 215 pounds, Wade Bohn, Emery pinned Alex Collins; and at 285 pounds, Jay Workman, Carbon pinned Caleb Jones.
