I'm pretty sure I have the best job in Emery County and probably one of the busiest. I've been extra busy this week as Corey has been out of the office; golfing in sunny Mesquite, but no I'm not jealous.
While she's been gone I have been covering some very fun events in the county.
Emery County is a really busy place at all times during the year and the Christmas season brings cause to celebrate and more events than usual.
I attended the Santa at the Bank yesterday and will go to another one today. This is where the school children make ornaments for the trees at the local Zions Bank branches and the bank makes a donation to the schools. It's a great activity and they always have yummy cookies which I for sure need.
Then later that night I attended the combined choir concert at Emery High with all the choirs from the junior highs and high school. This was a wonderful experience. I was sitting on the front row. I always try to get the front row. Most people avoid front rows, but when I'm working I think they are great.
It was so awesome to sit and listen to the wonderful music coming from these students. You could tell they had prepared very diligently for this performance.
I don't have a student in choir. But, I still get to go and listen and you should too. Sometimes I think we don't take advantage of the many opportunities out there in our communities where we can support our youth and other organizations.
Just because we don't have a child in choir or band or football or wrestling or speech or debate or basketball doesn't mean we can't go and enjoy watching other people's children.
I don't have a daughter that plays basketball, but I have sure seen my share of girls volleyball, basketball and whatever. It's very enjoyable to watch these young people work so hard to meet their goals.
At the girls basketball game the other night, I saw a couple who I knew didn't have any children or grandchildren playing, but they were there watching and supporting the team. I thought it was great.
If you never go to anything where you're not personally involved, I have to tell you that you are missing out. Find out when the school band and choir concerts are and athletic events. You'll be glad you did.
Yes, I'm pretty sure I have the best job in the county, it doesn't pay much, but the fringe benefits are really great and I never get tired of taking pictures of kids sitting on Santa's lap.
