Northern Utah Women's Conference

ACT Test

High school students can register by March 9 for the next national ACT test date on April 14. Students who miss the March 9 deadline can do a late registration for an additional fee by March 23. Students can register online at www.actstudnets.org or they can get registration materials from high school counselors.

Cybersafe Your Teens

KUED channel 7 explores practical ways parents can keep their children safe on the internet. It will broadcast on March 1 at 8 p.m. and March 3 at 7 p.m. on UEN-TV, channel 9.

Engineering Program

The Utah State University annual Engineering State program will be held on June 11-14, for all high school students entering their junior or senior year who have a strong interest in math, science, technology or aviation and display citizenship excellence on their scholastic record. Ferron Stake Merit Badge Pow-Wow

Ferron Stake's merit badge pow-wow will be held March 8, 15, and 22 beginning at 6 p.m. at the red church on the hill, 200 North State Street. For more information contact Valerie at 384-2592.

EMT Classes

The EMT basic class will start on March 6 at the Castle Dale Elementary, from 5-10 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays through May 10. The class will include two Saturdays during that period. Contact Sgt. Martin Wilson at 381-2404 to sign-up.

Miss Emery Pageant

The Miss Emery scholarship pageant will be held on July 14 at 7 p.m. Contestants must be 17 years of age by Sept. 1 to be in the pageant. Most juniors qualify. Anyone wishing to sign-up to compete in this scholarship pageant are encouraged to contact Jerilyn Spears, pageant director at 381-5667 or 381-2239 or call the Emery County Progress at 381-2431. Competition includes talent, interview, swimwear, on-stage question and evening gown.Scholarships for the pageant winner are queen, $1,200, first attendant, $700, second attendant, $500.

Scout Expo 2007

March 10, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Bring the family out for a fun day at the Recreation Center in Castle Dale. We will have a rope bridge, food, fun and activities for boys and girls. We will be selling tickets for door prizes. You must be present to win a door prize. To buy a ticket, find a Cub Scout in your neighborhood. The district will have a pinewood derby race that includes the top three finishers for each pack in the disctict. Businesses are invited to have a booth for advertising or provide a fun activity for any scout age boy or family. The district has purchased items to be given away for door prizes, but donations would be gladly accepted to add to these. All scouts who are selling tickets, need to have the ticket stubs, unsold tickets and money turned in by March 3. Ferron Stake can turn in tickets and money to Gaylene Conder (384-2470). Castle Dale Stake can turn in tickets and money to Teresa Lake (381-2437) or Cami Curtis (381-2123). Huntington Stake turn in to Eldon or Vicky Holmes (687-9235).

EHS Cheerleaders Spring Show

The Emery High School Cheerleaders Spring Show will be held on March 6 at 7 p.m. at the Spartan Center. There will be a $2 admission charge.

Veterans of Foreign Wars

A field service officer from the Veterans of Foreign Wars will be at the Price Workforce Service Center on March 22 from 8:30-10:30 a.m. This is a free service to assist veterans, widows and dependents in understanding and applying for rightful VA benefits.

New Beginnings

An Al-Anon meeting for families and friends of alcoholics will be held every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the Ferron City Hall building, 15 South State, Ferron.

Ten Star All Star Basketball Camp

Huntington Dog Licenses

The Huntington City 2007 dog licenses are now due. Proof of current rabies vaccination must be presented before license can be issued. Deadline for dog licenses is March 1. Dog licenses may be purchased at the Huntington City Hall.

Medical Help for Children

Utah families with children in need of medical services or medical equipment needs not fully covered by health insurance can apply to the United HealthCare Children's Foundation for up to $5,000 in medical assistance grants online at www.uhccf.org

Bible Study

Bible studies are being conducted by the Seventh-day Adventists of Emery County on Saturdays from 9:30 a.m.-noon at the home of Robert and Elsie Law, 1065 East 300 North (Bench Road), Ferron. Everyone is welcome. For more information, call 384-2424 or 384-2447.

Orangeville Dog Licenses

Orangeville dog licenses are due for 2007. The cost is $8 for spayed or neutered dogs and $25 for non-altered dogs. Bring in current rabies information when licensing your dog. All dogs must be registered by March 1, afterwards an additional late fee will be charged of $25.

Emery Town 2007 Dog Licenses

All dogs must be licensed by March 1. License tags are available at the town office Monday through Thursday. You must provide proof of current rabies vaccination and spay/neuter status when you purchase your dog license. $10 per dog late fee after March 1.

Ben Grimes Exhibit

Ben Grimes is having a one-man photography show at the College of Eastern Utah. It will run until March 31 on the second floor. The museum is open Monday thru Saturday from 9 a.m.- 5 p.m.

Programs for High School Students

The Interamerican University studies Institute will offer two programs to Costa Rica and Pura Vida this summer. The programs are open to students between the ages of 15-17 who will have completed two years of high school Spanish by June. Scholarships are also available. Applications are due by Feb. 9, 2007. Ballet Repertory Ensemble

The Ballet Repertory Ensemble will be holding the following performances at the Rio Theater in Helper at 7:30 p.m. Spring Contemporary Concert on April 25 and 27; Spring Classical Concert on April 26 and 28.

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity of Castle Country is accepting home applications. Appicants must complete 20 hours of work for the group, have been turned down for a conventinonal home loan and have a stable income. Volunteers and board members are needed. TRUTH Campaign

The 2007 TRUTH from Youth Anti-tabacco advertising contest is giving fourth and fifth graders the opportunity to become a big-time producer. Local Veterans Employment Representative

A local veterans employment representative visits the Castle Dale DWS Office the first Wednesday of each month. Appointments can also be arranged on other days by contacting Steve Wilkinson at (435) 636-2343. The LVER is also available Monday through Friday at Department of Workforce Services, 475 West Price River Drive, for questions about VA benefits, assistance with VA applications, employment assistance and other veterans issues. LDS 12-step meeting is every Thursday night at 7 p.m. at the Delta Seminary. Everyone is welcome.

Tip Line for Drug Violations

A tip line has been introduced in Emery County. The Emery County drug task force is requesting help from the residents to report any suspicious drug activity. The number is 381-2888, and all callers will remain anonymous. It is very important for citizens to be actively involved in helping remove drugs users and pushers from Emery County.

Support Group for Parents

The Three Wishes Inc. Program makes available power (electric) wheelchairs to senior citizens (65 years and older) and the permanently disabled at no cost to the recipient, if they qualify. Call toll free at 1-800-817-1871.

CASA Volunteers Needed

Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Those interested in volunteering should contact Kerrie, the CASA coordinator at 435-381-5595.

Angels Have Wheels

All Medicare recipients should now be aware that if they suffer from conditions such as arthritis, cardiovascular disease, and respiratory disorders, and have difficulty walking or propelling a standard wheelchair, they maybe eligible to receive an electric wheelchair paid for by Medicare. Help With Inhalers

The in home Rx programs makes available breathing medications and nebulizers to patients who may have asthma, emphysema or COPD at no cost to the recipient, if they qualify. Call 1-800-344-5764 or visit the website www.inhomerx.com for more information on the details of this program.

Senior Mobility

The Senior Mobility Program makes available to senior citizens and the permanently disabled, power electric wheelchairs at no cost to the recipient, if they qualify. Call 1-800-451-0971 to see if you qualify.

Utah Valley Cancer Center

Utah Valley Cancer Center, located at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center has a new toll-free phone number. Anyone can call 1-866-549-3800 to schedule an appointment, get information about local cancer support groups or to find out more about IHC cancer services and physicians. Hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Free Wheelchairs to the Disabled

The Wheelchair Foundation, Intermountain Healthcare, and the George S. and Dolores Dore Eccles Foundation are partnering to distribute free wheelchairs to disabled Utahns. Persons interested in getting a free wheelchair can call 1-877-387-3839, or apply at www.wheelchairfoundation.org/utah

Salvation Army

Donations are needed from Emery County residents to the Emery Chapter of the Salvation Army which provides emergency assistance for the people of Emery County as well as people traveling through the area. Mail donations to the Emery County Sheriff's Office, Box 281, Green River, Utah 84525 or Emery County Sheriff's Office, Box 817, Castle Dale, Utah 84513. Union Local 6363

Attention, union meeting for local 6363 will be held the third Wednesday of every month at the District 22 office in Price. The meeting will begin at 10 a.m.
