Heritage Days Rodeo Queen Contest

Huntington Heritage Days Rodeo Queen Contest is open to Emery and Carbon counties. It will be held on May 5 at 9 a.m., registration at 8:30 a.m. at the Huntington Rodeo Arena. For information on registration contact Beth at 687-2752 or Tina at 653-2391.

Old Mine Maps

The Utah Geological Survey is looking for old abandoned coal mine maps. The maps will only be borrowed for a digital image and then will be return to the owners. For more information go to www.geology.utah.gov.

Retreat for Girls

Retreat for Girls is for LDS girls ages 12-15, 11 year olds can come upon request. The program is held at Utah State University on June 25-29. Beta Sigma Phi

Huntington City

Huntington City clean up month goes until April 30. Please haul your trash to one of the dumpsters placed throughout the city. Burn permits will be required this year, pick up permits at the city hall. The burn window is from April 14- May 13.

Cleveland Elmo Coach Pitch

Cleveland Elmo coach pitch registration will be held on April 12 at the Old Cleveland Town Hall from 4:30-6 p.m. for ages 4-7. The cost is $15 for the first child and $10 for additional children. Scrapbook Class

A scrapbook, card class and crop will be held April 20 at the Castle Dale Senior Citizen Center from 5:30 p.m.-12 midnight. Bring your scrapbooking tools and join us for a night out. Classes have limited enrollment and are first come first serve. Crop is open to everyone. Free paper, Sizzix dye cutting machine, and great idea books are available for croppers. Crop fee is $5. Food Handler's Classes

Food handler's classes will be taught on April 26, May 17 and June 21 at 4 and 7 p.m. at the SEUDHD office, 25 West Main in Castle Dale. For more information call 381-2252. Classes will also be held in Green River on May 15 at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. at the Green River City Hall; and in Price on April 25, May 16, and June 20 at 9 a.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the District Health Department at 28 South 100 East.

Cleveland Fire Dept. Car Washes

Cleveland Fire Department will hold two fund raising car washes this spring. The first will be April 28 at the Main Street fire station from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The second on May 12 at the same time. Come and show your support to the Fire Department members for all their hard work and hours that go into being a volunteer fireman.

Miss Cleveland Pageant

All Cleveland girls ages 4-21 are encouraged to participate in this year's pageant. The pageant will be held on June 2 at the Cleveland Town Hall. Any questions call Jenny Parkins at 653-2811 or town hall at 653-2310.

Emery County Gun Club

New, youth ages 10-18 and all women shoot at reduced price from 5-7 p.m. Everyone is welcome from 7 p.m. on. New A and B class for all games provides everyone with an equal chance to win. Schedule: April 14; April 28; and May 12.

Senator Bob Bennett Office Hours

In Green River City Building, 240 East Main- Council Chambers, Green River, April 17 from 1-3 p.m. Staff will be available to assist with federal agency issues. If individuals are unable to attend these office hours, but would still like to request Senator Bennett's help, call the senator's Provo office, which handles constituent services for central and southeastern Utah at (801) 851-2525.

Emery Junior Miss Pageant

The Emery Junior Miss Pageant will be held June 2 at 5 p.m. at Huntington Elementary. Ages 5-8. Winner will accompany Miss Emery, Kristine Johansen, to the Miss Utah competition June 26-30 in Salt Lake City at Capitol Theater. Participants will be judged on two minute talent, a poem entitled Why is Emery County a Great Place to Live, Work and Play which they have written, and an on stage question. $40 registration fee. For more information, contact Jerilyn at 381-5667 or 381-2239, or the Emery County Progress at 381-2431. This pageant is a fundraiser to help Miss Emery with expenses related to Miss Utah. The Little Miss will receive a dress, attend a tea, crown and tickets for the Miss Utah pageant.

Soldiers Addresses Needed

American Legion Auxiliary #42 of Ferron is looking for addresses from people of Emery County that have love ones proudly serving our country in a war zone such as Iraq and Afghanistan. We have a program started three years ago called Operation Home Support which we send packages to soldiers, but we need help from Emery County residents with the names and addresses of your loved ones that are serving. They need a package from Operation Home Support to let them know they aren't forgotten and that we care and support them. Mountain Man Rendezvous

For boy scouts, varsity and venturing scouts. Come and join the fun on the Buckhorn. There will be competitive shooting of 22s, shot guns, and blackpowder rifles. Trophies will be given. April 14 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. for boys 11-19. There is no charge. To be held at the Buckhorn rendezvous site 14 miles east of Castle Dale.

Emery County Democrats

Emery County Democrats will be holding their county convention and dinner on April 12 beginning at 6 p.m. at the Museum of the SanRafael (96 North 100 East in Castle Dale). All interested people are welcome to attend. County party officers will be elected and local and state party leaders will speak. Dinner, entertainment and prize drawing will also be provided. Tickets will be available at the door or contact your precinct chair or county officers.

Castle Valley Pageant

It's time to sign up for the Castle Valley Pageant to be held on Aug. 2-4 and 7-11. Families are encouraged to sign up together. Priority may be given when parents are participating. Enrichment Meeting

The Stake Relief Society Enrichment meeting will be held on April 14 from 9 a.m.- 2:30 p.m. at the Castle Dale Stake Center. A luncheon will be served. All young women laurels are invited.

Emery County Republicans

The Emery County Republicans organizing convention will be held April 12 at 7 p.m. in the old courthouse room 207. Delegate registration will be from 6:15-6:55 p.m.

Cleveland Meeting

The April meeting for the Cleveland Town Council has been changed from April 12 to April 19. The meeting will be held in the Cleveland town office, 100 West Main at 7 p.m. The Cleveland Town Council encourages all residents to be involved in the progressive improvements of the community.

New Beginnings

An Al-Anon meeting for families and friends of alcoholics will be held every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the Ferron City Hall building, 15 South State, Ferron.

Castle Country Playdays

The Castle Country playdays series will be held April 21, May 19, June 30, July 14, Aug. 11 and Sept. 15 in Huntington. Sign-ups will be from 8-8:45 a.m. and start time is 9 a.m. For more information contact Karl and Trisha Jensen at 653-2770 or Anita Sitterud at 653-2782.

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity of Castle Country (Emery and Carbon counties) meets the second Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Carbon County Courthouse small conference room. Looking for three people from Emery County to fill board positions for 2007. Donations toward the present wheel-chair accessible house being completed for a family of five in Valley View Subdivision, Castle Dale. Your donation, large or small, will make this possible in 2007.

Basketball Tournament

Emery High School Men and Women Alumni Basketball Tournament sponsored by Emery County Recreation will be on April 21 from 8 a.m.- 8 p.m. There is a $20 entry fee per person. All Star Cheerleading

Emery all star cheerleading competition team tryouts, April 27 and 30 at 4 p.m. Ages 9-18. Deposits are required. Regular classes for ages 3-11 start in September, no tryouts necessary. For more information call 687-2632.

Emery High Rodeo Team

The Emery High Rodeo team is preparing for their 2007 rodeo. It will be held April 20-21 at the Castle Dale arena. Sponsorships from local businesses help make this possible. To sponsor the rodeo call VaLynn Sitterud at 687-9019.

Seniors and Disabled Struggling with Debt

The DCSD legal service is designed to help seniors and disabled people who cannot afford to hire an attorney to file for bankruptcy, but need legal representation to get collectors to stop harassing them, Call 1-800-992-3275 Ext. 1304 with any questions.

Miss Emery Pageant

The Miss Emery scholarship pageant will be held on July 14 at 7 p.m. Contestants must be 17 years of age by Sept. 1 to be in the pageant. Most juniors qualify. Anyone wishing to sign-up to compete in this scholarship pageant are encouraged to contact Jerilyn Spears, pageant director at 381-5667 or 381-2239 or call the Emery County Progress at 381-2431. Competition includes talent, interview, swimwear, on-stage question and evening gown.Scholarships for the pageant winner are queen, $1,200, first attendant, $700, second attendant, $500.

Medical Help for Children

Utah families with children in need of medical services or medical equipment needs not fully covered by health insurance can apply to the United HealthCare Children's Foundation for up to $5,000 in medical assistance grants online at www.uhccf.org

Bible Study

Ballet Repertory Ensemble

The Ballet Repertory Ensemble will be holding the following performances at the Rio Theater in Helper at 7:30 p.m. Spring Contemporary Concert on April 25 and 27; Spring Classical Concert on April 26 and 28.

Local Veterans Employment Representative

A local veterans employment representative visits the Castle Dale DWS Office the first Wednesday of each month. Appointments can also be arranged on other days by contacting Steve Wilkinson at (435) 636-2343. The LVER is also available Monday through Friday at Department of Workforce Services, 475 West Price River Drive, for questions about VA benefits, assistance with VA applications, employment assistance and other veterans issues. Free Legal Clinic

Every second and fourth Monday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. a free legal clinic will be held at the Price Court House. Call Utah Legal Services at 1-800-662-1563 to set up an appointment.

LDS 12-step meeting

LDS 12-step meeting is every Thursday night at 7 p.m. at the Delta Seminary. Everyone is welcome.

Tip Line for Drug Violations

A tip line has been introduced in Emery County. The Emery County drug task force is requesting help from the residents to report any suspicious drug activity. The number is 381-2888, and all callers will remain anonymous. It is very important for citizens to be actively involved in helping remove drugs users and pushers from Emery County.

Support Group for Parents

Grief support group for parents who have lost a child will be held Thursday evenings at 6:30 p.m. in the classroom at Castleview Hospital, 300 North Hospital Drive, Price. For more information contact 637-4800, ext. #4018 or 820-0287.

Power Wheelchairs

The Three Wishes Inc. Program makes available power (electric) wheelchairs to senior citizens (65 years and older) and the permanently disabled at no cost to the recipient, if they qualify. Call toll free at 1-800-817-1871.

CASA Volunteers Needed

Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Those interested in volunteering should contact Kerrie, the CASA coordinator at 435-381-5595.

Angels Have Wheels

All Medicare recipients should now be aware that if they suffer from conditions such as arthritis, cardiovascular disease, and respiratory disorders, and have difficulty walking or propelling a standard wheelchair, they maybe eligible to receive an electric wheelchair paid for by Medicare. For information on Medicare eligibility contact Gregory at 1-800-810-2877.

Help With Inhalers

The in home Rx programs makes available breathing medications and nebulizers to patients who may have asthma, emphysema or COPD at no cost to the recipient, if they qualify. Call 1-800-344-5764 or visit the website www.inhomerx.com for more information on the details of this program.

Senior Mobility

The Senior Mobility Program makes available to senior citizens and the permanently disabled, power electric wheelchairs at no cost to the recipient, if they qualify. Call 1-800-451-0971 to see if you qualify.

Utah Valley Cancer Center

Utah Valley Cancer Center, located at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center has a new toll-free phone number. Anyone can call 1-866-549-3800 to schedule an appointment, get information about local cancer support groups or to find out more about IHC cancer services and physicians. Hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Salvation Army

Donations are needed from Emery County residents to the Emery Chapter of the Salvation Army which provides emergency assistance for the people of Emery County as well as people traveling through the area. Mail donations to the Emery County Sheriff's Office, Box 281, Green River, Utah 84525 or Emery County Sheriff's Office, Box 817, Castle Dale, Utah 84513. Union Local 6363

Attention, union meeting for local 6363 will be held the third Wednesday of every month at the District 22 office in Price. The meeting will begin at 10 a.m.
