Former Miss Emery County

Senator BennettGÇÖs Office

The staff from Senator BennettGÇÖs Office will be available to meet with you at the Emery County Courthouse on May 23 from 9:30- 11:30 a.m. They can assist you with problems you may be having with Federal agencies.

Aftermath of Meth

KUEDGÇÖs Aftermath of Meth will be airing on May 30 at 8 p.m. It is a hard hitting probe of the drug that is devastating many small, rural communities in the West.

Utah Pride Festival

Fundraisers

Car wash fundraiser at Price Chevron next to Burger King in Price on May 12 from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. KidGÇÖs Day fundraiser at Dino-Mine Adventure Park in Price on May 19 from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. There will be a obstacle course jump, hot dogs, drinks, craft and bake sale. All proceeds benefit LFFC WomenGÇÖs Group.

Irrigation Water Management Workshop

An irrigation water management workshop will be held on May 17 at the Huntington Senior Citizen Center from 5GÇô 8 p.m. This workshop is designed to help irrigators achieve optimum efficiency with their irrigation systems. American Auxiliary Yard and Bake Sale

Armed Forces Day yard and bake sale sponsored by Ferron Unit 42 American Legion Auxiliary will be held on May 19 from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at MayorGÇÖs Park in Ferron. Funds will go toward Operation Home Support which helps send care packages to local troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan for eah holdiday during the year. Come out and help support our troops. Poppies made by Veterans will be distributed and donations appreciated.

Millsite Reservoir Two Man Scramble Fishing Tournament

A 2-man scramble trout fishing tournament will be held at Millsite Reservoir on May 19. There will be $500 prize money, Each team works together to come up with the one biggest fish. Preregistration begins May 2 at 8 a.m. and there are only 24 slots available. For more information call 435-687-2491.

Emery High Graduation Party

Come GÇ£pigGÇ¥ out at the Luau. Emery High graduation celebration, ninth through 12th grades, free food, prizes, Cheddar Field, 700 North Bell Avenue, Castle Dale. 9:30 p.m.-12:30 a.m.

Cheerleading Clinic

A cheerleading clinic will be held on June 5-7 from 9-11 a.m. for ages 3-12. The cost is $25 and $20 for an additional child which includes a T-shirt. Call to register by June 4 at 687-2632 or 749-1582.

Bike Festival

The San Rafael Swell Mountain Bike Festival will be held May 18-20. They will provide an event T-shirt, a spaghetti dinner on Friday, a pancake breakfast and dutch oven dinner on Saturday and a continental breakfast on Sunday. CEU Prehistoric Museum Events

Ferron Yard Sale and Plant Exchange

The City of Ferron is having a community wide yard sale and plant exchange on May 19, at MayorGÇÖs Park, from 8 a.m. -1 p.m. Lots of good items andcrafts. The cost to be a seller is free but you must register with City Hall at 384-2350. If you have extra plants, seeds or flowers (after your thin your garden) bring them to the park to share with others. The plants and flowers are free.

Grants for Sustaining Agriculture

Applications are now avalilable for more than $2 million in grants focusing on research and education to sustain agriculture in the West. Applications can be obtained from the Western SARE Web site http://wsare.usu.edu, by calling 435-797-2257, or by emailing wsare@ext.usu.edu.

MenGÇÖs and WomenGÇÖs Slow Pitch Softball

Emery County Recreation is currently registering teams for womenGÇÖs slow pitch softball and menGÇÖs slow pitch softball. MenGÇÖs league will be a metal bat league. All forms must be returned to the recreation office no later than May 18. Full registration fee must accompany the form. Forms may be picked up at the recreation office located at 75 South 400 East, Castle Dale, or can be downloaded from the Web site www.emerycounty.com/rec. Soldiers Addresses Needed

American Legion Auxiliary #42 of Ferron is looking for addresses from people of Emery County that have love ones proudly serving our country in a war zone such as Iraq and Afghanistan. We have a program started three years ago called Operation Home Support which we send packages to soldiers, but we need help from Emery County residents with the names and addresses of your loved ones that are serving. They need a package from Operation Home Support to let them know they arenGÇÖt forgotten and that we care and support them. Old Mine Maps

The Utah Geological Survey is looking for old abandoned coal mine maps. The maps will only be borrowed for a digital image and then will be return to the owners. For more information go to www.geology.utah.gov.

Retreat for Girls

Retreat for Girls is for girls LDS girls ages 12-15, 11 year olds can come upon request. The program is held at Utah State University on June 25-29. Food HandlerGÇÖs Classes

Food handlerGÇÖs classes will be taught on May 17 and June 21 at 4 and 7 p.m. at the SEUDHD office, 25 West Main in Castle Dale. For more information call 381-2252. Classes will also be held in Green River on May 15 at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. at the Green River City Hall; and in Price on May 16 and June 20 at 9 a.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the District Health Department at 28 South 100 East.

Miss Cleveland Pageant

All Cleveland girls ages 4-21 are encouraged to participate in this yearGÇÖs pageant. The pageant will be held on June 2 at the Cleveland Town Hall. Any questions call Jenny Parkins at 653-2811 or town hall at 653-2310.

Emery County Gun Club

New, youth ages 10-18 and all women shoot at reduced price from 5-7 p.m. Everyone is welcome from 7 p.m. on. New, A and B class for all games, provides everyone with an equal chance to win. Next shoot is May 12.

Emery Junior Miss Pageant

The Emery Junior Miss Pageant will be held June 2 at 5 p.m. at Huntington Elementary. Ages 5-8. Winner will accompany Miss Emery, Kristine Johansen, to the Miss Utah competition June 26-30 in Salt Lake City at Capitol Theater. Participants will be judged on two minute talent, a poem entitled Why is Emery County a Great Place to Live, Work and Play which they have written, and an on stage question. $40 registration fee. For more information, contact Jerilyn at 381-5667 or 381-2239, or the Emery County Progress at 381-2431. This pageant is a fundraiser to help Miss Emery with expenses related to Miss Utah. The Little Miss will receive a dress, attend a tea, crown and tickets for the Miss Utah pageant.

Castle Valley Pageant

ItGÇÖs time to sign up for the Castle Valley Pageant to be held on Aug. 2-4 and 7-11. Families are encouraged to sign up together. Priority may be given when parents are participating. New Beginnings

An Al-Anon meeting for families and friends of alcoholics will be held every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the Ferron City Hall building, 15 South State, Ferron.

Castle Country Playdays

Seniors and Disabled Struggling with Debt

Miss Emery Pageant

The Miss Emery scholarship pageant will be held on July 14 at 7 p.m. Contestants must be 17 years of age by Sept. 1 to be in the pageant. Most juniors qualify. Anyone wishing to sign-up to compete in this scholarship pageant are encouraged to contact Jerilyn Spears, pageant director at 381-5667 or 381-2239 or call the Emery County Progress at 381-2431. Competition includes talent, interview, swimwear, on-stage question and evening gown.Scholarships for the pageant winner are queen, $1,200, first attendant, $700, second attendant, $500.

Local Veterans Employment Representative

A local veterans employment representative visits the Castle Dale DWS Office the first Wednesday of each month. Appointments can also be arranged on other days by contacting Steve Wilkinson at (435) 636-2343. The LVER is also available Monday through Friday at Department of Workforce Services, 475 West Price River Drive, for questions about VA benefits, assistance with VA applications, employment assistance and other veterans issues. Free Legal Clinic

Every second and fourth Monday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. a free legal clinic will be held at the Price Court House. Call Utah Legal Services at 1-800-662-1563 to set up an appointment.

LDS 12-step meeting

LDS 12-step meeting is every Thursday night at 7 p.m. at the Delta Seminary. Everyone is welcome.

Tip Line for Drug Violations

A tip line has been introduced in Emery County. The Emery County drug task force is requesting help from the residents to report any suspicious drug activity. The number is 381-2888, and all callers will remain anonymous. It is very important for citizens to be actively involved in helping remove drugs users and pushers from Emery County.

Support Group for Parents

Grief support group for parents who have lost a child will be held Thursday evenings at 6:30 p.m. in the classroom at Castleview Hospital, 300 North Hospital Drive, Price. For more information contact 637-4800, ext. #4018 or 820-0287.

Power Wheelchairs

The Three Wishes Inc. Program makes available power (electric) wheelchairs to senior citizens (65 years and older) and the permanently disabled at no cost to the recipient, if they qualify. Call toll free at 1-800-817-1871.

CASA Volunteers Needed

Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Those interested in volunteering should contact Kerrie, the CASA coordinator at 435-381-5595.

Angels Have Wheels

All Medicare recipients should now be aware that if they suffer from conditions such as arthritis, cardiovascular disease, and respiratory disorders, and have difficulty walking or propelling a standard wheelchair, they maybe eligible to receive an electric wheelchair paid for by Medicare. Help With Inhalers

The in home Rx programs makes available breathing medications and nebulizers to patients who may have asthma, emphysema or COPD at no cost to the recipient, if they qualify. Call 1-800-344-5764 or visit the website www.inhomerx.com for more information on the details of this program.

Senior Mobility

The Senior Mobility Program makes available to senior citizens and the permanently disabled, power electric wheelchairs at no cost to the recipient, if they qualify. Call 1-800-451-0971 to see if you qualify.

Utah Valley Cancer Center

Utah Valley Cancer Center, located at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center has a new toll-free phone number. Anyone can call 1-866-549-3800 to schedule an appointment, get information about local cancer support groups or to find out more about IHC cancer services and physicians. Hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Free Wheelchairs to the Disabled

The Wheelchair Foundation, Intermountain Healthcare, and the George S. and Dolores Dore Eccles Foundation are partnering to distribute free wheelchairs to disabled Utahns. Persons interested in getting a free wheelchair can call 1-877-387-3839, or apply at www.wheelchairfoundation.org/utah

Salvation Army

Donations are needed from Emery County residents to the Emery Chapter of the Salvation Army which provides emergency assistance for the people of Emery County as well as people traveling through the area. Union Local 6363

Attention, union meeting for local 6363 will be held the third Wednesday of every month at the District 22 office in Price. The meeting will begin at 10 a.m.
