Scrapbook and Card Classes

Emery Spartan Basketball Camp

Emery Spartan Basketball Camp will be held June 6-8 from 8-11 a.m. at the Spartan Center for grades fourth-12th. For more information call Todd at 749-5425. Price is $35 per camper. This is a fund raiser for the San Diego trip.

Emery County Community Foundation

Junior Golf Program

Emery County Recreation will sponsor a junior golf program for youth ages 8-17. It will be held June 11, 18, 25 and July 2 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. at Millsite Golf course. A coupon will be given at the time of registration which will be June 6 at the Emery Recreation office at 75 South 400 East Castle Dale. River Rats Camp

Canyonlands Field Institute is offering a River Rats Camp for teens age 13-18 on Aug. 5-11. The campers will run the river from Loma, Colo. through Westwater during this hands-on workshop. Spring for the Children Ride

The Bikers Against Child Abuse (BACA) is hosting their second annual Spring for the Children ride to benefit child advocacy on June 23. If you are interested in riding, meet at 9 a.m. at Kokopelli's in Price.

Comments Requested on Lake Fuels Project

The US Forest Service is requesting comments and suggestions related to the Lake fuels project. They must be submitted to the Forest Service by June 20. Send comments to Manti-LaSal National Forest, Price/Ferron Ranger District, P.O. Box 310, Ferron, UT 84523. Personal information such as name and contact information must accompany your comments.

Defensive Driving Class

Relay for Life

Tour of Utah Volleyball Tournament

The Huntington Slam Sand Volleyball Tournament will be held at Huntington State Park on June 2. Play begins at 9 a.m. and open division at 8 a.m. Mens and womens divisions, also juniors in several age groups. Registration deadline is May 31 and must be done on-line at www.imvolleyball.org. Know Before You Go

An ATV permit class will be held June 7 at the old Courthouse in Castle Dale beginning at 7 p.m. for ages 8-16 to be legal to drive on public lands. You must preregister at Emery County Recreation at 75 South 400 East in Castle Dale by June 4. For more information contact Emery Recreation at 381-2108 or Mark Williams at 381-2493.

Miss Emery Pageant

The Miss Emery scholarship pageant will be held on July 14 at 7 p.m. Contestants must be 17 years of age by Sept. 1 to be in the pageant. Most juniors qualify. Anyone wishing to sign-up to compete in this scholarship pageant are encouraged to contact Jerilyn Spears, pageant director at 381-5667 or 381-2239 or call the Emery County Progress at 381-2431. Competition includes talent, interview, swimwear, on-stage question and evening gown. Scholarships for the pageant winner are queen, $1,200, first attendant, $700, second attendant, $500.

Cade Jones Benefit

A benefit will be held for Cade Jones on June 7 at 5 p.m. at Canyon View Junior High. Dinner, bazaar, bake sale, auction, and raffle. Donations can be made at UP&L Credit Union in his name. Donations to the bake sale or auction can be taken to the school on the day of the benefit.

Emery Town Pioneer Day

Call the Emery Town Office at 286-2417 to reserve your booth space for July 21. Sell your wares, food and crafts at Emery Town's Pioneer Day celebration.

Miss Castle Dale Pageant

Castle Dale City is looking for girls ages 4-21 to be contestants in the Miss Castle Dale Pageant. Contestants must live in Castle Dale. Each contestant will be judged on appearance, talent and interview. Winners will receive cash prizes, crowns and a bouquet. The pageant will be held June 22 and the registration deadline is June 4. The pageant will be held at Emery High auditiorium. For more information call Jeanette at 381-5558. Winners will be expected to participate in parades and city celebrations.

Cottonwood Canal Company Summer Hours

Make note of the summer hours for the Cottonwood Canal Company. The hours are: Thursday from 3-6 p.m., and Friday from 9 a.m.-noon. For more information call Stan at 381-2073.

Photographs for the County Fair

The display theme this year will be "Fences", that are old, new, leaning, upright, toppled, prosperous, funtional, any that tell a story in a glance. Contact Stan for further information at 381-2466.

June at John Wesley Powell Museum

The Fourth Annual Canyon River Runners Art Show will be held during June. On the June 30 the Museum is hosting Shirley Venus Day from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. There will be a silent auction, a painting presentation, and the Nine Mile Players will play until 2 p.m. in Shirley's honor. Aftermath of Meth

KUED's Aftermath of Meth will be airing on May 30 at 8 p.m. It is a hard hitting probe of the drug that is devastating many small, rural communities in the West.

Utah Pride Festival

The Utah Pride Festival will be held on June 1-3. Grammy Award winner Sheena Easton will perform on June 1 at 8 p.m. For more information go to www.utahpride.org.

Cheerleading Clinic

A cheerleading clinic will be held on June 5-7 from 9-11 a.m. for ages 3-12. The cost is $25 and $20 for an additional child which includes a T-shirt. Call to register by June 4 at 687-2632 or 749-1582.

Grants for Sustaining Agriculture

Applications are now available for more than $2 million in grants focusing on research and education to sustain agriculture in the West. Applications can be obtained from the Western SARE Web site http://wsare.usu.edu, by calling 435-797-2257, or by emailing wsare@ext.usu.edu.

First Annual Castle Country Rock, Fossil, and Mineral Show. Soldiers Addresses Needed

American Legion Auxiliary #42 of Ferron is looking for addresses from people of Emery County that have love ones proudly serving our country in a war zone such as Iraq and Afghanistan. We have a program started three years ago called Operation Home Support which we send packages to soldiers, but we need help from Emery County residents with the names and addresses of your loved ones that are serving. They need a package from Operation Home Support to let them know they aren't forgotten and that we care and support them. Retreat for Girls

Retreat for Girls is for girls LDS girls ages 12-15, 11 year olds can come upon request. The program is held at Utah State University on June 25-29. The girls have the opportunity to listen to wonderful speakers, do service projects, crafts and many activities with their group. For more information go to www.retreatforgirls.com.

Food Handler's Classes

Miss Cleveland Pageant

Castle Valley Pageant

It's time to sign up for the Castle Valley Pageant to be held on Aug. 2-4 and 7-11. Families are encouraged to sign up together. Priority may be given when parents are participating. New Beginnings

Seniors and Disabled Struggling with Debt

The DCSD legal service is designed to help seniors and disabled people who cannot afford to hire an attorney to file for bankruptcy, but need legal representation to get collectors to stop harassing them, Call 1-800-992-3275 Ext. 1304 with any questions.

Medical Help for Children

Utah families with children in need of medical services or medical equipment needs not fully covered by health insurance can apply to the United HealthCare Children's Foundation for up to $5,000 in medical assistance grants online at www.uhccf.org

Local Veterans Employment Representative

A local veterans employment representative visits the Castle Dale DWS Office the first Wednesday of each month. Appointments can also be arranged on other days by contacting Steve Wilkinson at (435) 636-2343. The LVER is also available Monday through Friday at Department of Workforce Services, 475 West Price River Drive, for questions about VA benefits, assistance with VA applications, employment assistance and other veterans issues. The Three Wishes Inc. Program makes available power (electric) wheelchairs to senior citizens (65 years and older) and the permanently disabled at no cost to the recipient, if they qualify. Call toll free at 1-800-817-1871.

CASA Volunteers Needed

Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Those interested in volunteering should contact Kerrie, the CASA coordinator at 435-381-5595.

Angels Have Wheels

All Medicare recipients should now be aware that if they suffer from conditions such as arthritis, cardiovascular disease, and respiratory disorders, and have difficulty walking or propelling a standard wheelchair, they maybe eligible to receive an electric wheelchair paid for by Medicare. Help With Inhalers

The in home Rx programs makes available breathing medications and nebulizers to patients who may have asthma, emphysema or COPD at no cost to the recipient, if they qualify. Call 1-800-344-5764 or visit the website www.inhomerx.com for more information on the details of this program.

Senior Mobility

The Senior Mobility Program makes available to senior citizens and the permanently disabled, power electric wheelchairs at no cost to the recipient, if they qualify. Call 1-800-451-0971 to see if you qualify.

Utah Valley Cancer Center

Utah Valley Cancer Center, located at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center has a new toll-free phone number. Anyone can call 1-866-549-3800 to schedule an appointment, get information about local cancer support groups or to find out more about IHC cancer services and physicians. Hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Salvation Army

Donations are needed from Emery County residents to the Emery Chapter of the Salvation Army which provides emergency assistance for the people of Emery County as well as people traveling through the area. Mail donations to the Emery County Sheriff's Office, Box 281, Green River, Utah 84525 or Emery County Sheriff's Office, Box 817, Castle Dale, Utah 84513.
