The Green River High School golf team concluded their season recently in Moab. They competed against Monticello and Whitehorse high schools. Green River finished third and did not qualify as a team for the State tournament. The Pirates were led by Senior Kaden Robertson. He was named the Region 19 champion for the fourth straight year. Kaden shot a tournament best 79. The closest golfer to him was Monticello's Rhett Adair at 90.

Following Kaden for Green River, was Earl Nelson at 105, Adrian Lucero at 124 and Brittney Bastian at 136. The Pirates improved with each tournament and have had a successful season. Whitehorse high school won the region tournament followed by Monticello.

Green River senior, Kaden Robertson qualified for the 1A state tournament as an individual. The state tournament was held on May 15-16 at the Roosevelt Golf Club in Roosevelt. Kaden opened the first day of the tournament with a 75 putting him in third place. The second day, Kaden really warmed up to the Roosevelt links. He shot the low round of the tournament with a three under par 69. He could not however catch the leader and came up two shots short of the medalist title.

With his second place finish at state and a strong region season, Kaden was chosen for the third straight year as a member of the High School All-State golf team. He was able to travel to Salt Lake and play in the Hidden Valley Country Club All-Star invitational golf tournament. He played against 42 of the best senior golfers in the state. The tournament is a one of a kind challenge, pitting senior golfers from all classifications 1-5A, in the state.

The tournament was held on May 23. The event is a 27 hole event. After the first 18 holes the best 15 golfers move on to a nine hole playoff. Kaden shot an excellent score of 76 in the morning. This was remarkable due to the cold, windy weather and the fact that he had not played the course before. After the morning round, Kaden stood tied for third place. He qualified for the afternoon round. Kaden struggled on the afternoon nine. The greens were very fast and the pins were very difficult. Kaden shot a 45 in the afternoon and finished 12th overall.

The pros at the Hidden Valley country club stated that the course was set up tougher than when they hosted the State Amateur and that the scores were all good. Kaden was awarded a $150 contribution to the college bookstore of his choice.

Kaden was also honored as a three time member of the All-State team at a banquet later that night.

Craig Bolerjack of CBS sports and KJZZ, was the keynote speaker and he encouraged the young men and women to stay close to their parents and remember what golf teaches them about integrity and honor and use those lessons in their lives.

The Green River golf team appreciates their coach Dale Richards and the Green River golf course for their support.
