4-H Summer Fun Activities

Participants of the 2006 4-H summer programs and camps receive their awards in a program at the County Building in Castle Dale.

Any youth that is 8 years old or older and completed third grade may enroll in these 4-H Summer Activities.

Registration due as soon as possible. Adults please volunteer to help with these activities.

Bicycle rodeo, June 5, 10 a.m., Castle Dale Elementary School. No cost. Bring your bikes and helmets. Officer Martin Wilson will be conducting this event.

Babysitting Camp - June 11-12, 1-4 p.m. Cost: $20. Each youth will make a babysitting kit for display in the county fair. Location: Castle Dale City Park (behind Old Courthouse).

Quilt Camp - June 15, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Cost: $25 (includes all fabrics, batting and backing). Bring your own lunch. We will be making "I Spy" quilts. You will need to provide a sewing machine and basic sewing equipment, two spools neutral thread. Have an adult accompany you that knows how to sew. If you are unable to provide someone, call Christine Jensen and help will be provided.

Cooking in the Park - June 7, 11, 14, 21 at 10 a.m. Cost: $10. Castle Dale Park (behind old Courthouse). Learn cooking skills and have fun tasting. Presented by Food $ense Nutrition Program.

Fly tying and mini fishing kit -- June 13, 10 a.m. Castle Dale City Park (behind Old Courthouse). Cost: No fee. Learn tips and techniques and make your own tied fly and mini portable fishing kit.

Mini Society - June 18-29 (no mini-society will be held June 28). Held at Castle Dale Elementary, 1-4 p.m. Participants in this youth entrepreneurship camp must attend all days of this camp. Cost is $15.

4-H Day Camp - June 28, Little Bear Campground - large pavilion. (Huntington Canyon) Registration will begin at 9 a.m. Theme this year is "4-H - The Wind Beneath My Wings." There will have a guest speaker on predatory bird rehabilitation, displays, dissecting owl pellets, games, skits and other fun stuff. Lunch will be a turkey BBQ. Each club or family needs to bring a salad and dessert to share with everyone. See you there.

Cake Decorating -- will be held for four weeks in July. Specific dates and time will be announced later. Cost: $10, limited to 20.

Robotics - seventh-ninth graders only (12-15 years old). Held the week of July 16 at Castle Dale Elementary School, limited to 20 youth. Cost: $10 and is held all day each day. More details will be coming on this new event.

Arts and Crafts - July 5, 12, 19. Cost: $6. Old County Courthouse, Castle Dale. We will make a different item each week.

Ceramics - July 26, 2 p.m., Old Courthouse, Castle Dale. This year we will be making two items - a Santa Claus and a reindeer. Cost: $5 (for both). Wear old clothes that can get paint on them. We will keep items when finished to enter into the fair.

Tie-dyed T-Shirts - July 30, Castle Dale City Park. Cost: $2. Bring your own clean, white T-shirt to decorate. Bags will be provided for youth to take shirt home to be washed.

Emery County Fair - theme: New Adventures Await. Entries are due July 31. Entries are accepted at the exhibit building at the fair grounds. Food, fruits and vegetable entries will be due Aug. 1, no later than 10 a.m. Please enter your projects from this past year. If you have questions regarding what is an acceptable fair entry, contact the 4-H office. The guidelines will soon be on the website as well.

These activities, dates and times are subject to change. For junior high camps, registrations will be accepted beginning May 29. If you would like to participate in any or all of the activities but are unable to afford these camps, some scholarships are available. Contact Christine Jensen for further information.
