The Helper American Legion baseball team that plays in the Salt Lake valley league is off to another good start under Manager Jeff Cisneros. With a win last week over Olympus, the Helper team record is 7-2 and they are in second place behind Kearns, a team that played in Helper last night for a battle for first place. Cisneros has managed the Helper team to the finals three of the past five seasons.

This year's squad is comprised of only players from Carbon and Emery high schools. In years past, players from Duchesne, Green River and Moab have made the trip to play with the local team.

Players from Emery High School on the team are AJ Mitcheson and Trever Thompson who graduated in 2006, Kyler Edgehouse who graduated this year and senior to be Blake Mortensen. Kyler and AJ see action as a pitcher and as an infielder, Trever is an outfielder and a pitcher and Blake is a catcher and an infielder. The rest of the team is comprised of players from Carbon.

Helper defeated Olympus 16-7 with Tyler Turcasso pitching well into the fifth inning. AJ came in to close the game out on the mound. Trever had a homerun, a double and a single. JD Sherman and Marcus Zaccaria also hit homeruns and Aaron Sandoval, Sherman and Bradey Wilde also had doubles.

The prior weekend, Helper defeated Timpview in Helper. Final score was 7-3. Although Cisneros was not pleased with the effort of his team, Brent Johnson pitched a good game and the local team got the win. Cisneros said, "I was not happy with my teams focus and effort. Getting better day in and day out is something I stress very much to our team."

Fernando Martinez pitched a complete game to get the win over Murray. JJ Blue hit a homerun and Blake Mortensen and Bradey Wilde had doubles. Cisneros said, "This was a very good team effort. Anytime you beat Murray at Murray you should be happy with your performance."

In the Cyprus loss, Edgehouse pitched a complete game. Sandoval and Wilde hit homeruns and Sherman had a double.

Martinez got the win in the Hunter game, Edgehouse got the win in the Tooele game and Brent Johnson got the win in the Highland game.

Against Hunter, Sherman, Wilde Moynier and Mitcheson each had a double and Blue hit a homerun.

Against Tooele, Edgehouse, Blue, Mortensen and Sandoval all hit doubles.

Against Highland, Moynier, Sandoval and Sherman each had a double.
