Crews continue to make good progress on the Jungle Fire; they continue to patrol and monitor the firelines for hot spots and smokes. Structure protection is in place for the Ferron summer homes. The fire is burning in beetle killed aspen, fir and spruce stands and pockets of deadfall. Fire managers review the progress of the fire and weather forecasts regularly to determine if suppression action is necessary to protect life and property.
Smoke from this fire may be visible from the surrounding area for the next few weeks depending on weather conditions and fire behavior. Due to the inversion layer, early morning smoke could drift down canyon into the Castle and Sanpete valleys. Fire activity and smoke generally increase in mid-afternoons, when temperatures are at their highest and humidity at it's lowest. Numerous large fires in the vicinity are contributing to smoke in the valleys.
