Block grants to Eastern Utah communities

The Community Development Block Grant, a program of the Utah Division of Housing and Community Development, has received $6,643,875 for FY 2007. The federally allocated CDBG funds are administered by the Department of Housing and Urban Development and vary year to year as the result of legislative appropriations.

"The purpose of the CDBG program is to assist in developing viable communities by providing affordable housing, suitable public services, and economic development opportunities," states Gordon Walker, Director of Housing and Community Development. "More than 95 percent of CDBG funds are spent on projects that benefit low to moderate income families and individuals."

Fifty-four projects have been awarded grants for FY 2007.

Bear River region received eight project grants, Five County region received four, Mountainland region received nine, Six County region received seven, Southeast region received five, Uintah Basin region received six, and the Wasatch Front region received 15.

Projects receiving grants include:

Green River, manhole replacements - $81,900.

Moab City, park improvements - $74,192.

Moab City, Four Corners Behavioral Health - $74,831.

Monticello, park improvements - $104,845.

Price City, park improvements - $131,322.
