Castleland RC&D and Local Conservation Districts Seek Public Input

The Castleland RC&D Council, Inc. is in the process of revising their strategic plan, and your input is important to assure that Emery County's resource concerns are addressed in our planning process. We are partnering with the San Rafael Conservation District and the Green River River Conservation District to assess the resources in the area. We welcome you to share your input. Public meetings will be held at the following locations, dates and times: Jan. 10, 2008 at 7 p.m. at the Emery County Building Canyon Room, Castle Dale; and Jan. 11, 2008 at 7 p.m. at the Green River City Building, Council Chambers, Green River. New Years Eve party

A New Year's Eve party will be hosted by the Emery High Peer Helpers at Emery Recreation Center on Dec. 31 from 5-9 p.m. It will be a family oriented party with food and games.

Candidates sought for Utah's Conservation District Boards

The Utah Conservation Commission is now taking nominations for three of the five elected board member positions in each of the 38 local conservation districts across the state. Nominations by petition are due at the Conservation Commission office at the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food on or before Jan. 4, 2008. Ballots will be mailed the latter part of January 2008. Nomination petition and ballot request forms, and further information about the election process can be obtained at, by emailing, by calling (801-538-7120 or 7171), and by writing to the Utah Conservation Commission, PO Box 146500, Salt Lake City, 84114-6500, or, after the first week of January 2008, from local CD, USU Extension Service, and USDA Service Center officials.

Huntsman Autoplex Grand Opening

The grand opening celebration will be held during Jan. 2-31. The first 27 buyers get a 27" LCD-HD TV just in time for the Super Bowl. The ribbon cutting ceremony and lunch will be Jan. 10 at 12 noon. Tour our new facility and get your name in the drawing for a 27" TV and other prizes. Limit one entry per person. The winner will be announced on Jan. 31 at 5:30 p.m. Must be present to win.

USDA Reminder for Farmers

Eligible ranchers and other livestock producers can apply to receive benefits through the Livestock Compensation Program and Livestock Indemnity Program and Crop Disaster Program at 801-524-4530.

Arch Coal Foundation Teacher Nominations

The official closing date for nominations for this year's Arch Coal Teacher Achievment Awards is Jan. 11, 2008. Arch Coal Foundation wants wants to recognize five excellent teachers with $2,500 personal cash award. Nominations can be made online at or they can be picked up at your local district office.

Orangeville City Dog Licenses

2008 dog licenses are now available at the Orangeville City Hall. Fees are $25 for a non-altered dog and $8 for a spayed/neutered dog. A rabies clinic will be held on Jan. 12 and Feb. 23 at the new fire station in Orangville from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.

Emery County Gun Club Schedule

The schedule for the Emery County Gun Club will be: Jan. 5, 2008 and Jan. 19, 2008. All shoots will start at dusk, just before dark. For more information contact Jeremy at 381-2057, Jason at 384-3279, or AJ at 384-3393.

Commodities Cooking Classes

Commodities cooking classes will be held in Emery County at the Emery County Courthouse, 75 East Main Street in Castle Dale, from 9 a.m.-noon on the following days: Jan. 16, 2008; Feb. 20, 2008; March 19, 2008, April 16, 2008, May 21, 2008; and June 18, 2008.

Share the Experience Photo Contest

The Utah Office of Tourism is encouraging amateur photographers with a love of Utah's public lands to help promote the state's beauty in a national contest. The Federal Lands Management Agencies, along with the Ford Motor Company and the National Park Foundation, are sponsoring the Share the Experience Photo Contest, honoring the best photos of American public lands. The contest is open to the public and accepting submissions until Dec. 31. A total of 14 photographs will be given awards for their excellence. The Grand Prize winning photograph will be printed on the 2009 Federal Recreation Lands Pass and the photographer will receive a new 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid.
