With nearly 40 percent of its workforce reaching retirement age in the next five years and the strong demand for railroad service, Union Pacific Railroad is aggressively recruiting and hiring locomotive electronic technicians and diesel electricians to ensure consumer products, automobiles, coal and food continue to move across the nation's rail system.

"Diesel locomotive electricians and mechanics perform very important jobs and are responsible for inspecting, repairing and maintaining the electrical components on diesel electric locomotives," said Roy Schroer, assistant vice president - Human Resources, "Their work is critical to the success of Union Pacific and its customers."

Diesel electricians perform scheduled electrical and electronic inspections in compliance with company and industry standards, inspect various small and large components, inspect and test circuitry with electrical testing equipment including high and low precision measuring instruments -- micrometers, tape measures, dial calipers.

Jobs at Union Pacific

Currently, Union Pacific has job openings at many locations throughout its 23-state operating system. Opportunities are available in train service, skilled disciplines (e.g., diesel mechanics and electricians) and management.

Interested applicants are encouraged to visit www.unionpacific.jobs. People without access to computers should visit their local job service, public library or copy center. Applicants should be a minimum of 18 years of age.

People who receive a job offer are required to successfully complete a medical exam, drug test and background investigation.
