DUP Log Cabin

School District Speech and Hearing Screening

Emery School District conducts annual speech and hearing screenings to identify students who might need further evaluation of their speech or hearing. Students who fail the initial hearing screening will be given a retest in three-four weeks. Screening is scheduled with the schools involved and takes place anytime during the school year. District speech-language pathologists administer the tests. All district preschool, kindergarten, first grade, new students and any referrals will be screened for hearing. Pre-kindergarten students will be screened during kindergarten registration and third grade students will be screened for speech only. Parents who do not want their child to receive speech or hearing screening tests must contact the school secretary.

Plateau-Willow Creek Second Annual Reunion 2008

Apple Harvest At Wasatch Mountain State Park

Midway - Through the end of September, celebrate fall with park staff during the second annual apple harvest at historic Huber Grove at Wasatch Mountain State Park. Pick and taste mountain fresh apples of several varieties and make great applesauce and ciders. Wasatch Mountain trees are pesticide-free. Apples are $3 per bag. Extension poles and bags are available at the visitor center. Tree climbing is not allowed due to the age and fragile nature of the trees. Huber Grove at Wasatch Mountain State Park is a 130-year old homestead, built and settled by Johannes Huber and his family. Two original buildings remain on the grounds, along with part of the family's original apple orchard, which once numbered more than 22,000 trees. Visitors to Huber Grove can learn about the historic farmhouse, creamery and orchard though interpretative signs. For more information, call (435) 654-1791.

Sept. 13 Goblin Valley State Park

Green River Junior Ranger Program-Predators and Prey: Who are the predators and who are the prey at Goblin Valley? How do they survive in this harsh environment? This program is geared toward children 6-12, but everyone is welcome. Earn a Junior Ranger badge and have fun. Meet at 9:30 a.m. at the Observation Point above the Valley of the Goblins. Later that evening, join park staff at 8:30 p.m. to learn about bats and the big role they play in Goblin Valley's ecosystem. Meet at the amphitheater just past the campground. (435) 564-3633.

Sept. 12 Goblin alley State Park

Green River Full Moon Hike: What happens in the Valley of the Goblins during a full moon? How do animals change their behavior? Join park staff on a walk through the goblins to find out. Meet at 8:30 p.m. at the Observation Point above the Valley of the Goblins. (435) 564-3633.

Sept. 19, Vendors in the park-noon until dark, 3 man golf scramble-golf course-9 a.m., baseball game w/Manila @ high school-1 p.m., softball games-evening, queen pageant at the high school-7 p.m., square dancers-city park-8 p.m. Sept. 20, breakfast - city park-7 a.m., free, all you can eat watermelon at the park, vendors in the park-all day, parade-10 a.m., entertainment in the park-11:30 a.m featuring music by Switchback, softball games - all day and evening, free concert-Charley Jenkins-Book Cliff Elementary lawn-6 p.m., square dancers-city park-7:30 p.m., dance-9 p.m.

1983 Class reunion
