The Emery High Lady Spartans defeated the Union Cougars 25-12, 29-27 and 25-10 in Castle Dale and then traveled to Vernal only to lose to the Uintah Utes 19-25, 17-25 and 22-25.

The Emery Spartans are working hard to not only win games but to put together a winning program with a winning attitude. After having struggled for the past several seasons, Emery is playing together better as a team. They appear to be working harder for each other and playing as a unit.

Head coach Kris Bell talks about her team, "We have goals in our locker room that we set before the season began and we are striving to meet those goals. The girls are fantastic and are fun to be around. I see us getting better every day."

Against Uintah, Emery never really got anything going against the talented Utes. Against Union, Emery almost gave the second game away but dominated games one and three.

In game one, Emery was down 0-2 before getting their act together and got out in front 8-4. Emery jumped to a 16-6 lead with some excellent play. Jodi Robertson had a kill shot as did Brook Jensen and Keera Allred had two aces as she served. Emery continued playing well to lead 20-8, 23-10 and winning at 25-12.

In the second game, after leading 2-1, Emery went down 3-5 then tied it at 6-6, then led 9-8 then went down 13-16, as Emery did not keep their heads in the game. In this game, the Spartans played more as individuals rather than as a team. ShiAnne Allred had a couple of kill shots to get Emery back to 15-17 before Union jumped up 16-21. The game looked over at his point. Emery got to 22-23 as Jensen and Robertson each had another kill shot. Emery tied it at 23-23 and 24-24 and 25-25 and 26-26 and 27-27 before scoring the last two points to get the win. Emery played really well at the end of game two to get the win.

In game three, Emery jumped up 10-4 with Allred having a couple of kills and Sierra Bridgewater also having a kill. Frankie Komar served really well and kept the Cougars off balance. Emery got up 14-6, 17-8, 19-9, 22-10 and won 25-10 with Komar serving again.

Emery is working hard and although there will be losses from time to time; the Spartans are an exciting team to watch. With no games this week, the Spartans will play an intra-squad game Tuesday night and then open region play next week with a game at Salem Hills.
