The San Rafael Junior High P.E. classes went to Millsite Golf Course recently to try their luck at golf. Coach Kirk Robinson arranged for the students to have this opportunity at the course.

For many of the young golfers this was their first time on the golf course. The ninth grade P.E. classes involving 40 students practiced at the school with practice balls before their trip to the course. They go to Millsite every spring and every fall to learn the game.

The P.E. program wants to encourage the students to develop skills in sports which they can engage in throughout their lives.

Golfing is a sport which can be enjoyed by all age groups.

The students learned a bit about the rules of golf. As important as the rules is golf etiquette. Golf has its own set of rules for what is considered proper behavior on the golf course and what isn't.

In addition to learning proper use of the golf clubs, the students learned that walking a golf course can be good exercise.

Especially if you carry your golf clubs between holes instead of relying on a golf cart. In order to drive a golf cart at the course you must be 16 so the junior high age students walked the course and had a shotgun start.

The P.E. classes rotated throughout the day on the course. Robinson who also teaches eighth grade P.E. and seventh grade health said, "The students had fun, they get to be with their friends and out of school for the day. Some are pretty good, but some are first time golfers. They all said it's harder than it looks. It was very entertaining to watch."
