Letter to the editor: Response to Wakley
I don't know who Darrel La Mar Wakley is, but I will tell you his opinions do not reflect anyone else's that I know in Rexburg. The boys who chanted "Assasinate Obama" on the school bus were 8 and 9 years old. Sometimes kids of any age mouth-off and use language they really don't understand in trying to be cool in front of their peers, which was clearly the case here.
Mr. Wakley's comment that "parents need to be careful about what they say and teach their children" is good advice for all parents, but I highly doubt the school children were taught by their parents the hate reflected in Mr. Wakley's letter. Madison County Superintendent Geoffrey Thomas said "the boys involved are actually good students who just made a bad decision that day". We've all made bad decisions in our lives, Mr. Wakley, especially in our youth. These boys learned a hard lesson. Time to let this one go.
