The Emery High/College of Eastern Utah Division of Workforce Education students competed at the San Juan Community College auto Competition on Nov. 21, 2008 in Farmington, N.M. The students competing were Rhyker Allred-eighth place, Cy Nelson-11th place, Chandler Peacock-13th place, Josey Johnson-15th place, Kyle Ferris-28th place and Hayden Barney-29th place.

This was the first competition of the year and the first competition for the Emery group for everyone except Rhyker. There were 55 students competing overall from New Mexico, Texas and Utah.

On Dec. 2, 2008 the two older auto classes took the written test for Weber State Auto competition, there were 550 students taking the test from Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Wyoming and Oregon. Emery High placed in the top 24 teams and will compete in the hands on finals on Feb. 19 at Weber State University. Right now the two man team competing will be Rhyker Allred and Hayden Barney.

On Feb. 5 the auto class will be competing in the New Mexico Junior College contest in Hobbs, N.M. The five person team will be Rhyker Allred, Josey Johnson, Chandler Peacock, Cy Nelson and Tony Farrer. The team will leave on Feb. 3 and return on Feb. 7.

The Emery team is hopeful they will finish in the top three teams as they finished second the last two years. This New Mexico competition has schools from New Mexico, Texas and Emery High from Utah. The older students will take the written test for the Ford/AAA contest on Feb. 25.

If the scores are in the top 10 of the state then Emery will compete in the hands on finals in Salt Lake in April. Emery High has made it to the finals the last two years.
