Last Thursday, Friday and Saturday Emery's softball team traveled to Washington County and played six games over the three days and won five of those game. With temperatures hovering in the mid 80s, the girls actually complained at first of it being too hot when they arrived at Hurricane Thursday afternoon for the first game. They soon got over the heat.

Emery went three up three down in the top of the first inning and the Hurrican scored a run in the bottom of the inning to lead 1-0. Emery tied the score in the second inning as Abbie Kay and Markette Tanner singled and Kay scored. In the fourth inning, Emery took a 2-1 lead. Gabby Guymon singled and Danavin Reed doubled. Guymon scored a Makiah Sherman single.

After two Tiger runs scored in the fifth inning, Emery tied the score in the top of the seventh inning. Shelby Mason singled, Adrienne Weihing singled and Guymon singled again to get the run.

In the eighth inning, Emery had five base hits and scored six runs to grab a 9-3 lead. Kay, McKenzie Grange and Weihing all singled and Tanner and Sherman doubled for the hits. Hurricane scored three runs in the bottom of the inning but Emery won 9-6. Keera Allred pitched six innings and Whitney Roper closed out the game.

On Friday, Emery defeated East 14-0 on 13 base hits by the Spartans with Whitney Roper pitching the game and allowing five hits. Emery scored six runs in the first inning and four runs in the second inning and four more in the third inning. Grange had three base hits in three at bats and scored a run to lead the way. Kay had two hits and two runs scored. Guymon scored three times and walked four times. Reed also scored three times. Tanner hit a triple in the game and Mason had a double for the only extra base hits.

Emery then defeated North Sevier 10-2 with Keera Allred on the mound. Emery had 10 hits in the game with six of them being for extra bases. Guymon, Tanner and Grange all tripled in the game with Kay, Mason and Grange all hitting doubles.

At 8 a.m. Saturday morning, Emery played Ogden and defeated the Tigers 24-2. Roper was on the mound in this game and pitched a no-hitter and struck out five. The Ogden runs scored due to Emery errors.

Emery had 11 singles in the game, two doubles, two triples and an inside the park homerun. Danavin Reed hit the homerun in the first inning and had three RBI's on the hit. Emery scored 12 runs in that first inning. Emery then added eight runs in the second inning as the game was over quickly. Tanner had the two triples in the game and Sherman and Guymon had the two doubles. Weihing scored four times from her leadoff position.

After finishing pool play as the winner of their division, Emery then entered a tournament with the winners of the other three pools. First up for the Spartans was Judge Memorial. Emery defeated Judge 21-8 in the game that only went three innings because the 90-minute time limit expired.

Emery scored 11 runs the first inning and five runs in each of the next two while giving up five runs in the first inning and three runs in the second inning. Allred pitched the game.

Adrienne Weihing and Michelle Oliver each had three singles in the game and each scored four times. Oliver also had a double. Sherman and Grange also hit doubles in the game. Twelve walks and a hit batter in the game assisted Emery.

In the last game of the tournament, Emery faced Boulder City High School out of the Las Vegas area and Emery faced the best pitcher of the tournament and lost the game 12-0. Only Abbie Kay got a hit in the game.

Emery now is 6-1 for the season and will play three games this week. On Tuesday, Emery hosts Richfield at 3 p.m. and on Thursday the Spartans will open region play with a game against North Sanpete at 3:30 p.m. Emery will then travel to Salina for a game against North Sevier at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
