CLAWSONâStanley Joseph Nielson, age 80, passed away August 1, 2009 at the Emery County Nursing Home in Ferron. Stanley was born on Dec. 5 1928, in Lockerly, Utah, as the sixth of eight children born to Joseph and Deloa Nielson.
When Stanley was 17 he joined the U.S. Army. When he got out he married his special sweetheart, Dorlynn Day, on Aug. 6, 1950 in Moab, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple.
Upon returning from the service, Stanley worked for the State Road Department for two years. He then worked at the lumber yard in Moab, and was later transferred to Carbondale, Colo, where he worked as manager of the lumber yard there for 15 years. Stanley then moved his family to New Plymouth, Idaho, and ran a dairy farm for 15 years. He moved to Emery County to work at the power plant in Huntington. He also worked for the Sheriff's Office in Castle Dale for 13 years. Stanley and Dorlynn were temple workers in the Manti Temple for two years which was the highlight of their lives.
He was a hard worker all his life and built his first log cabin at the age of 14 years. He has continued building houses throughout his life. He's built many special things including cedar chests and china cupboards for many people in Emery County. In fact many people in Emery County have a small part of things he has made over the years. Stanley was also the king of water fights and had many of them.
Stanley was a very special husband, grandfather, and friend. He is our special angel and we'll all miss him so. But we know he is at peace with our Heavenly Father and will be waiting for us.
Stanley is survived by his wife, Dorlynn; three children: Terry Lynn (Les) Young of Burley, Idaho, Michael (Robin) Nielson of Roy, Utah, and Randy (Jamie) Nielson of Ferron, Utah; one brother, Clay (Elaine) Nielson of Smithfield, Utah; one sister, Desie Oviatt of Huntington, Utah; 16 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and three brothers.
