Soccer Referees Needed

The Emery County Youth Soccer League is looking for referees for the fall soccer season. Interested persons may call or stop by the Emery County Recreation Office, 75 South 400 East, Castle Dale or call 435-381-2108.

AARP Utah's Popular Forums to be held Aug. 29, AARP Utah's popular Staying Sharp and Avoid Becoming A Victim of Fraud Forum is coming to Castle Dale. One Pitch Softball Tourney

The Emery County Fair co-ed one pitch softball tournament will be on Aug. 28. Entry fee is $150 per team. Register at the Emery County Recreation Office located at 75 South 400 East in Castle Dale, Must be registered by Aug. 27. For more information contact the Emery Recreation Center at 381-2108.

Youth Soccer

Registration for youth soccer will be Aug. 25 and Aug. 26 from 5-7 p.m. at the Emery County Recreation Center. Registration fee will be $25 for first child and $20 additional children. For more information contact Melinda Morris at 609-1208.

Youth volleyball

Emery County youth volleyball will register on Aug. 25 and Aug. 26 from 5-7 p.m. at the Emery County recreation Center. Registration fee is $15, fourth-fifth grades skill building and sixth-seventh grades games. Contact Shanae Butler at 748-2735 for more information.

Sept. 26. Registration at 8 a.m. Race begins at 8:30 a.m. For more information contact Active Re-Entry at 10 South Fairgrounds Road in Price.

Hearing and Speech screening

Emery School District conducts annual speech and hearing screening to identify students who might need further evaluation of their speech or hearing. Students who fail the initial hearing screening will be given a retest in three-four weeks. Screening is scheduled with the schools involved and takes place anytime during the school year. District Speech-Language Pathologists administer the tests. All district preschool, kindergarten, first grade, new students and any referrals will be screened for hearing. Pre-kindergarten students will be screened during kindergarten registration and third grade students will be screened for speech only. Parents who do not want their child to receive speech or hearing screening tests must contact the school secretary.

Express Yourself

Castle Dale Library Writing Club meets: Aug. 27 from 4-5:15 p.m. All ages and experience welcome.

Arapeen Trail Jamboree Ladies Only Ride

Come and join the fun on the 'ladies only' ride of the jamboree on Sept. 9. The cost is $10 and includes allday guided ride and catered lunch on the mountain. All ladies are welcome, just bring your 4 wheeler and meet in Ferron at 9 a.m. For more information and details call Annette at 435-609-1260 or Corey at 435-381-5571. Orangeville City's Meet the Candidate Night

Come out to meet the candidates for mayor and city council. Aug. 27 in the City Hall Council Chambers at 7 p.m.

Clawson Town Celebration

Games start at 4 p.m. Bake sale, dinner at 6 p.m. entertainment and auction after dinner. Activities at the city hall and Clawson park. Celebration is Aug. 29.

Cowboy Poetry Night

The Emery County Historical Society and the Castle Valley Outdoors welcomes you to join them on Aug. 27 at 6:30 p.m. for a night of cowboy poetry, music by the Val Jensen band and dutch oven cobbler and ice cream. The event will be held at the Castle Valley Ranch. We recommend that everyone bring a folding chair, bug spray and a coat. Yearly dues are only $5 and help to sponsor these events. The San Rafael Books as well as others will be for sale during the evening.

Sub-4-Santa Yard Sale

Presenting by Matt Warner Chapter 1900. August 28, 29, and 30 A.T.F. (all times flexible). Held in the Koko Pelli's parking lot 189 N. Carbonville Road. Donations welcome. Farmers Market

High Desert Growers will be holding a farmers market from 3:30 - 6:30 every Wednesday beginning August 12 through the end of the growing season at the Emery County Recreation Building. Come out and support our local farmers. Farmers and their produce are needed.

Emery County Commissioners Board of Equalization Meeting

Tuesday, August 25 -12:30-3 p.m. at the Emery County Sheriff/County Complex at 45 East Farrer St. in Green River.

Emery High Tennis

The Emery High School tennis team will begin practice on August 17 at 7 a.m.

All girls 9-12 grades are encouraged to play. You do not need to have played tennis before. All you need is tennis shoes and a racquet.

Free Resource Makes Applying for Student Financial Aid Easier

Self-guided presentation walks students through the sometimes-confusing financial aid application process. The Utah Higher Education Assistance Authority is very pleased to announce "Navigating the FAFSA," a much-needed new resource to help students complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (commonly called the "FAFSA"). This tool is a self-directed presentation that guides students through topics explaining the purpose of the FAFSA, how to obtain a PIN to sign their FAFSA securely online, what information should be gathered, how to complete the FAFSA, and how to submit it. Easily found on the front page of the UHEAA website, this presentation gives high school counselors and financial aid professionals another tool to help their students. To access the presentation go to http://www.uheaa.org/ and click on the "Navigating the FAFSA" button. The presentation can also be found through UHEAA's Facebook page.
