SPRING GLEN - Tony (Antonius) Perri, age 87, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, departed this life Sept. 3, 2009 while surrounded by his children.

Tony was born May 11, 1922, the sixth of eleven children of Dominic and Maria Juiseppa Fazzio Perri. He was the first child born at the family home in Spring Glen.

He married Ann Svetich, June 13, 1943 in Spring Glen. Their marriage was later blessed at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Helper. Ann preceded him in death on July 15, 2006.

Tony was a lifelong resident of Spring Glen. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, proudly serving his country in the Pacific. He was a retired member of the United Mine Workers of America with 42 years of dedicated service and a life member of Price Elk's Lodge # 1550.

Tony shared a passion for the outdoors and he especially enjoyed hunting, camping and fly fishing in Huntington Canyon. He enjoyed traveling with his wife Ann in their motor home. Tony loved snowmobiling with family and friends well into his 80's.

He loved reminiscing with family and friends, and his door was always open with a pot of coffee ready for anyone to stop by. Tony was a gifted mechanic who could fix anything and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. He was greatly admired for his courage, independence, and resiliency.

He is survived by his daughter and special son-in-law, Pam (Eugene) Holdaway, Lexington, Ky.; son, Rolynn Perri and Cherilyn, Salt Lake City; five grandchildren, Tony (Laura) Perri, III, Grand Junction, Colo., Kris (Jim) Varndell, Rock Springs, Wyo., Rolynn "R.J." Preceded in death by his parents; son, Tony Perri, Jr.; wife, Ann; brothers, Pete, Domenic, Angelo, Bill and Ross Perri; sisters, Viola Perri and Florence Butkovich.

The Perri family sincerely thanks Al and Pat Barnett, Billy Perri, Danny Lewis, Vink Tolich and Terry Marasco for the many hours of kindness shown to our Dad during his last few years. We would also like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Max Morgan and Dr. Glenn Etzel, and Tisa Pendergrass of Community Nursing for her extraordinary dedication and care of Tony.

Funeral Mass, Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009, 9 a.m., St. Anthony Catholic Church in Helper. Vigil service, Tuesday evening 7 p.m., Mitchell Funeral Home in Price. Family will be at Mitchell's Tuesday and Wednesday one hour prior to services. Committal service, Mt. View Cemetery, Helper.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to St. Anthony Catholic Church or Community Nursing Services.
