The Cleveland Town Fall Burn Season is from October 3, to November 1, 2009.

Permits are available at the Town Office, 100 W. Main, Cleveland. Everyone must obtain a permit prior to burning. There are no fees for a burn permit. Allowable material: dry weeds, garden waste, tree limbs (under 6 inches in diameter) tree and shrub trimmings, scrap lumber (untreated). Any questions please call the Town Office, 653-2310

2009 FERRON SCARECROW CONTEST

PARTICIPANTS MUST PRE-REGISTER at City Hall Display locations will be assigned at time of registration. The contest is open to individuals, businesses, organizations, and clubs. There is no fee to enter. Hand-deliver your entry form to The Ferron City Hall or use the night drop.

Entries must be received by Oct.14.

Scarecrows may go up anytime between Oct. 1-15.

The scarecrow contest is family friendly. Scarecrows should be whimsical, humorous, or loveable and NOT frightening.

Judging is Nov. 9-10th. Winners will be announced Nov. 11th.

Ribbons will be awarded to the top three scarecrows in each category.

Hunters Education Course

A hunter education course will be held Sept. 30, Oct. 1, 7 &, 2009 at the Emery County Recreation Center. Class will be from 4:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. each day. Fee for class is $10. You MUST pre-register by Sept. 28. Sign up early, there is a class size limit.

Participants will be required to obtain a voucher at a licensed vendor for the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources prior to registering for the class.

The Museum of the San Rafael and The Pioneer Museum 40th Year Anniversary

The Pioneer Museum and The Museum of the San Rafael will be celebrating their 40 year Anniversary on October 9 at 6:30 p.m. at The Museum of the San Rafael.

We would like to honor all those who took part in starting and participating in making the museums what they are today.

Huntington City Fall Open Burn

Oct. 3 thru Nov. 1 - Burn permits are required and can be picked up at city hall.

Huntington City Fall Clean-up

September 15 thru October 15. October 15 will be the last limb pick up until the spring clean-up.

Dumpsters will be located behind the hill north of the ball complex.

Please do not place anything on the ground!

The Emery County Landfill is requesting that these items not be placed in the dumpsters that are used for the spring and fall clean-ups; tires, batteries, oil, no liquid of any type such as paint, turpentine, etc., pesticides, cement, and refrigerators.

A person can be fined up $12,000 from the State of Utah for mixing these appliances in with regular refuse because of the freon.

YardSale/Bake Sale

Marina Closing for Season

Free Resource Makes Applying for Student Financial Aid Easier

Self-guided presentation walks students through the sometimes-confusing financial aid application process. The Utah Higher Education Assistance Authority is very pleased to announce "Navigating the FAFSA," a much-needed new resource to help students complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (commonly called the "FAFSA"). This tool is a self-directed presentation that guides students through topics explaining the purpose of the FAFSA, how to obtain a PIN to sign their FAFSA securely online, what information should be gathered, how to complete the FAFSA, and how to submit it. Easily found on the front page of the UHEAA website, this presentation gives high school counselors and financial aid professionals another tool to help their students. To access the presentation go to http://www.uheaa.org/ and click on the "Navigating the FAFSA" button. The presentation can also be found through UHEAA's Facebook page.

New AA Meeting

A newly established AA meeting will be held every Monday night from 7-8 p.m. at the Huntington Senior Center, 176 West 100 North.

Attention Emery County Residents

Looking for Injured Veterans

A New Orleans doctor is looking for veterans of either the Iraq war or the war in Afghanistan who have suffered traumatic brain injury or post traumatic stress disorder to participate in a free pilot trial of treatment that so far has had 100 percent beneficial results. Veterans who qualify will be flown to the clinic (and home later) free, and sponsors are making lodging, meals and transportation available at vastly reduced rates. Local Veterans Employment Representative

A local veterans employment representative visits the Castle Dale DWS Office the first Wednesday of each month. CASA Volunteers Needed

Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Utah Valley Cancer Center

Utah Valley Cancer Center, located at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center has a new toll-free phone number. Anyone can call 1-866-549-3800 to schedule an appointment, get information about local cancer support groups or to find out more about IHC cancer services and physicians. Hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
