CASTLE DALE-Verl LeRoy Keisel passed away Jan. 30, 2010 in Price, Utah after a lingering illness complicated by pneumonia.

He was born in Manti on Feb. 3, 1930 to Kenneth and Devonia Keisel. He was the fourth of 16 children. He dropped out of school early to help support his large family. Verl served in the Armed Forces during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953.

When he returned home he met and married Ruth Robinson in Fayette, Utah on May 14, 1954. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple.

He went to Snow College for a year in carpentry. He has since made many beautiful pieces of furniture for his family.

Verl spent most of his years operating heavy construction equipment. Several of the things he helped build were I-70, Highway 6, and Joe's Valley Dam.

One of his passions before he became too ill was his gardens. He was well known for his vegetables, from his 10 foot high corn to his 280 pound pumpkins. He also enjoyed fishing.

He is survived by his wife Ruth, his children: Teresa (Derrell) Lake, Karla (Steven) Knighton and Craig Keisel all of Castle Dale; Steven (Carol) Keisel of Fruit Heights and Sherrie (Scott) Bailey of Ferron; brothers and sisters: Verna Bowns, Dixie (Lamar) James, Budd (Dana) Keisel all of Manti; Lavon (Jim) Hagen of Taylorsville; Kenna Simpson, Dee (Jeanen) Keisel of Salina; Kenley (Dorothy) Keisel of Centerfield; Roseletta (Wallace) Ballow of Levan; and Timmy (Leslie) Keisel of Moroni, 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughters, Glennet, Verlyn and Ruth, brothers: Kenneth Keisel Jr., and Lewis Keisel, sisters: Beth Christensen, Dona Stott, Doris Brewer and Devonia Keisel.

Graveside services will be Wednesday, Feb. 3 at 12 noon at the Manti City Cemetery. There will be a viewing on Wednesday at the Manti LDS Stake Center (300 South Main St.) from 10:30-11:30 a.m. prior to the graveside services.

Services are in the care of Fausett Mortuary. Family and friends may sign the guest book and share memories of Verl at www.fausettmortuary.com. Happy 80th Birthday!
