Two Emery Spartan Wrestlers place in State Tourney
The Delta Rabbits won the just completed 3-A state wrestling tournament at Utah Valley University in Orem. Delta scored 342.5 points to easily outdistance the Wasatch Wasps for the title. Delta took home five individual titles in winning the title. Hurricane took three individual titles, Wasatch grabbed two and Ben Lomond, Carbon, Morgan and Cedar City all had one individual champion.
For Emery High School, Cort Jensen at 140 pounds and Clay Collard at 160 pounds both placed at the tournament. Both Emery wrestlers finished sixth in their respective weight divisions.
Jensen defeated Bryce Provost of Wasatch in his opening match in a 12-6 decision. Jensen then defeated Kevin Webb of Desert Hills in a 7-6 decision. Jensen then lost to Christian Hatch of Delta and Kade Dalton of Delta before meeting Webb again in the battle for fifth and sixth and losing this time.
Collard defeated Brock Garn of Juan Diego before losing an overtime match to Randon Prochnow of Morgan. Collard then defeated Aaron Reeves of Canyon View and Mitchell Welch of Ben Lomond before losing to Tayler Skinner of Bear River and Chris Horton of Wasatch.
Spencer Fehlberg, at 112 pounds, lost his opening match to Brandon Woolstenhulme of Park City. Fehlberg then defeated Tanner Vanvalkenberg of Bear River before losing to Will Baldwin of Hurricane.
Keith Bird, at 140 pounds, lost to Cole Hunt of Carbon in his opening match. Bird then defeated Devon Maddux of Park City before losing to Chris Lucky of Cedar City.
Chet Funk, at 152 pounds, lost his opening match to Teddy Hackford of Wasatch. Funk then defeated John Rolfe of Bear River before losing to Logan Hutchings of Richfield.
Jace Guymon, also at 152 pounds, lost his opening match to Alex Hamblin of Union in overtime. Guymon then defeated Bryce McClure of Bear River before losing to Justin Christensen of Delta.
