SPRING GLEN-Our loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Vera Haycock Jacob Mamanakis, age 90, passed away April 21, 2010 in Bountiful, Utah.
She was born March 23, 1920 in Helper, Utah to Thomas and Phoebe Bellows Haycock.
On Nov. 1, 1938, she married William H. Jacob in Price, Utah and at the age of 44 he unexpectedly passed away on May 22, 1955. After being widowed at such a young age, Vera went on to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse. She attended Carbon College and graduated from the School of Nursing. Vera worked at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake for one year and eventually returned to Spring Glen were she was blessed with the best family and neighbors that anyone could ask for.
On Sept. 22, 1963, she married Nick Mamanakis in Ely, Nev. Vera dedicated her life to the care of others and in 1974 she retired from Carbon Hospital where she touched the lives of many. She loved working in her yard, caring for her flowers and garden, and enjoying the special outings at the cabin in Scofield with Nick before his passing on March 1, 1998. Vera will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survived by her son, Jefferey (Kim) Jacob, Layton; step-daughter, Mary Lou (James) Terry, Grand Junction, Colo.; granddaughter, Kimberly (Spencer) Terry, Malvern, Iowa; beloved sisters, Dorothy Ward, Spring Glen, Mildred (Rudy) Vuksinick, Orem; and her special little poodle Teddy who everyone adores.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, William and Nick; brothers, Art, Les, Johnny and Clifford; and a sister, Flossie.
Funeral service, Tuesday, April 27, 2010, 11 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home, 233 East Main Street in Price. Family was at Mitchell Funeral Home Monday evening from 7-8 p.m. and Tuesday one hour prior to service. Interment, Price City Cemetery.
