DeeAnne Ward, fifth grade teacher at Cleveland Elementary School was recently recognized by the Wal-Mart store in Price as the Teacher of the Year for 2002. Special Promotions and Programs directors, Shawnell Julian and Becky Basso surprised Ward in her classroom on Nov. 7 with the presentation. Ward was presented with a certificate for Teacher of the Year, a Wal-Mart vest especially prepared for this event with Teacher of the Year emblazoned on the back, and a check for $500. Each year Wal-Mart creates an opportunity for students to nominate their favorite teacher as part of a program to recognize and award outstanding educators. Ward, having taught in Cleveland Elementary for the past 15 years felt especially honored by this nomination from the previous year students.
